Barbra Streisand's Granddaughter Turns 2 — Grandma Got Emotional after Sonogram Showed It Was a Girl

After spending 24 years together, the famous couple James Brolin and Barbra Streisand are grateful to be the grandparents of four lovely little ones. Barbra and James are proud to say their extended brood is developing at a fast rate. Most recently, the youngest of the siblings, Chapel Grace Brolin, turned two years old.

Chapel is the daughter of James' biological son and Barbra's stepson, Josh Brolin. Like his father, Josh has made a name for himself as an actor, and he's married to Kathryn Brolin. Besides Chapel, their four children include Eden Brolin, Trevor Brolin, and Westlyn Brolin.

Kathryn lauded her daughter on her birthday with a photo of the little one on Instagram, saying her youngest has brought her nothing but happiness. The image showed the blonde-haired toddler standing outside, wearing a cozy jacket and a warm expression. Her mom referred to her as her "tiny unicorn baby."

Barbra was already struggling to control her excitement at the start of the pregnancy, and as the months flew by, she and James could barely contain themselves.

Chapel's dad, Josh, also showed his affection for his kids by posting an image of all four of them as kids two days before his youngest's birthday. The picture showed a golden, foldable photo frame, much like a locket. The frame held two snapshots, each depicting two of his kids. In the caption, Josh wished every parent and child a merry Christmas.

Barbra and James' Emotional Reaction to Daughter-In-Law's Pregnancy

Josh was married before he met Kathryn, and he shares his oldest two children with his ex-wife, Alice Adair. The actor only had his youngest two daughters with his current wife. Nonetheless, Barbra and James can't get enough of their four grandchildren, especially when Josh and Kathryn announced they were having another baby.

Josh and Kathryn shared how they landed on the name, saying it was greatly influenced by their travels.

The couple broke the news to James and his wife before anyone else knew about the pregnancy. Barbra was already struggling to control her excitement at the start of the pregnancy, and as the months flew by, she and James could barely contain themselves. Barbra reminisced:

"First, they told us very early on and said, 'Don't tell anybody,' and I think that's because [Kathryn] wanted to have her sonograms back and be sure of everything. And then, when they found out it was another girl and [they] told us, we just were jumping up and down."

James shared that his wife has taken quite a liking to her grandkids. She adores being a grandmother, and even though they aren't her biological relatives, she would do just about anything for them. Her husband admitted, "Barbra, by the way, these are not her blood grandchildren and she is just mush."

Why Did They Name the Girl Chapel?

Most people would agree that, although Chapel is a terrific name, it's relatively unique. Josh and Kathryn shared how they landed on the name, saying it was greatly influenced by their travels. They admitted that neither of them is seriously religious, but they have often felt humbled in chapels. Josh commented:

"Everywhere we have traveled the one place Kathryn and I always found a great solace in were chapels. Not being particularly religious, but a God feeling heavily inundating our lives, chapels have always been the sanctuaries where we felt most connectedly free to give thanks."

The pair described their feelings of awe and humility when they visited chapels throughout the world as something "celestial," and they said they had the same feeling when their youngest daughter was born. The "Inherent Vice" star said their daughter seemed like the physical "manifestation" of this feeling of awe.

Along with the explanation of Chapel's name, Josh posted a photo of his daughter when she was a newborn. The image showed the young Brolin baby wrapped in a white blanket and resting on the hospital bed while Christmas lights shined blurrily in the background.

Of course, James and Barbra were over the moon when Chapel was finally born and the "Yentl" actress ensured she could spend as much time as possible with her newest grandchild. She and James were practically "jumping" for joy.
