Linda Evans landed the role of a lifetime playing Krystle Carrington on "Dynasty." But her path to the widely acclaimed show was the result of an unfulfilled desire to have a happy marriage.

Evans got her start on the sitcom "Bachelor Father" at 15 when a director scouted her at a friend's audition. She then got a major role in "Big Valley" and was on her way to building a successful TV career. But she fell for John Derek, and her dream became being his wife.

Her dream turned nightmare when her husband cheated on her, and their marriage ended in 1973. Evans was "devastated" to lose her husband and all the hopes she had for their future. But later, she realized that the divorce was a blessing in disguise. Speaking of how her life changed, Evans said:

"If I had stayed married to John, who didn’t want me to work, I could never have done ‘Dynasty.’"

Evans took one more shot at matrimony two years later with real estate broker Stan Herman who she described as a handsome playboy. That marriage ended in 1979. The actress picked herself up, relaunched her career, and channeled all her energy into her new role on "Dynasty."

Evans played Krystle Carrington, the angelic wife to oil tycoon Blake Carrington, played by John Forsythe, who Evans co-starred with in "Bachelor Father." Krystle was the foil to the devious Alexis, played skillfully by Joan Collins. Producer Aaron Spelling broke barriers by casting two actresses over 40 as leads in a popular show in the 1980s.

After "Dynasty," Evans retreated to a quiet life in Washington state. She returned to acting at 78 in the 2021 film "Swan Song." One could say that the move was "outrageous," but the actress said she was inspired. It seems the script awakened her curiosity and emotions enough to bring her out of retirement.

Natural Beauty

In her heyday, Evans's blonde hair and pretty face were the envy of "Dynasty" fans. Falling prey to the pressure to maintain her youthful look, the actress has admitted to getting some work done after leaving the show. Now, she has vowed never to have plastic surgery again, explaining:

"The trouble with plastic surgery is that after 10 years gravity wins out and you have to have it done again."

Instead of nips, tucks, and lasers, Evans nowadays prefers a more natural approach to beauty and fitness. A great way to stay healthy is to avoid those things that make you sick, like stress, poor diet, and lack of exercise.

The actress enjoys long walks with her dog, Alexie, along forest trails and by the river. She spends time in the gym lifting weights. After an injury, she discovered stretching to promote flexibility and strengthen her core. Her fitness regimen would not be complete without yoga.

Having a positive outlook and taking care of her health has helped her overcome depression and ill health.

Evans reports that she meditates in the morning to achieve inner peace and get mental clarity to face the day. Eliminating stress goes a long way in getting her body to work as it should. The actress puts in the work to look and feel her best at 80, starting with understanding the connection between the physical, mental, and spiritual.

“I look for dishes rich with nutrition that bolsters the integrity, resilience, and optimal function of every cell in my body.”

Some foods are bone breath, an excellent source of collagen, colloidal silver to eliminate infection, B-complex vitamins for overall health and energy, and Magnesium for restful sleep. Her cookbook, "Recipes for Life: My Memories," contains some tried and true recipes.

Evans learned early on that "happiness is the best revenge." She let go of the disappointments and dashed hopes of the past. Now she is living life to the full, taking pleasure in pursuing her interests and spending time with her loved ones. The "Dynasty" star said:

"I never knew being alone could be so delightful. I’m rich because I have family and friends living all around me."

When it comes to romance, Evans is content to be alone for the moment. Having been married and divorced twice before she turned 30, the octogenarian who also dated Yanni at some point is happy to be single. She has said that she doesn't need a man to complete her.
