Sade mourned the end of her love story with Spanish documentary filmmaker Carlos Scola Pliego for longer than their relationship lasted.

His career peaked around the time they got married. The assistant director was on the crew of one of John Malkovich's first major films and a James Bond movie during the Sean Connery era.

The couple married in a Spanish castle.

Following a grueling tour promoting her second studio album, the untimely death of her father, Bisi Adu, and the unrelenting media attention, the singer relocated to Spain. She reconnected with the assistant director and was to have fallen "madly in love" with him.

The filmmaker was with her in the studio during the production of the album "Stronger Than Pride," which spawned hits such as "Nothing Can Come Between Us" and "Love Is Stronger Than Pride." The couple married in a Spanish castle on October 11, 1989, and lived together in Madrid.

Sade and Carlos Were Not Together for Long

According to news reports, Sade and Pliego had a rocky relationship. The "I Never Thought I'd See the Day" singer split from her husband a year after their wedding and moved back to London. She said in a rare interview that she did not get over their love fleetly:

"It was a very sad situation. I had to leave... very quickly... with a very small bag. It took five years for it not to be something that affected the way I felt. "

The couple's divorce was finalized in 1995. The private singer, who has sold millions of albums around the world, has not disclosed the details of the settlement.

Not one to share her feelings with the media, Sade's fans get the best insight into your life through her music. Towards the end of 1992, the singer was ready to open up on the album "Love Deluxe." She expanded on the title:

"'Love Deluxe' is one of the few luxury things you can't buy. Now, you can buy any kind of love, but not love deluxe. That's something entirely different."

Sade found 'love deluxe' in 1996 with the father of her child, Bobby Morgan, a Jamaican music producer. The duo remained together for a few years, making the relationship work long distance.

The singer considered getting remarried to Ian Watts, with whom she lived in rural Gloucestershire, England, with their two kids from previous relationships around the time she released "Soldier of Love." The singer regretted past mistakes but said, "You really know it's right because you've already been through all the wrong."
