In 2022, rumors began to swirl that Spencer would further his college football career at Arizona State. However, ESPN college football host Matt Barrie took to Twitter to share that the Rattler family was asking for too much money, so ASU passed.

Mike swiftly came to his son's defense and claimed that Matt was spreading misinformation. The ASU coaching staff contacted the Rattler family, who were not interested. However, the ASU coaching staff made no offers, and thus no offers were accepted by the Rattler family.

Mike Is Pretty Active on Twitter

In 2021, Mike's son revealed that his father had a hands-on approach to his son's bright footballing career by handling his interviews. Spencer said:

"...it was my dad that mainly did the interview process... so I'd be focused on football. So, I'm grateful to have both of my parents, but mainly my dad doing all that type of stuff. And yeah, he did a good job."

A regional sales representative for Citizens Automobile and Recreation Finance, Mike played football when he was younger and dreamed of his son playing as many sports as possible.

While Mike's career saw him work as a representative and coach in different leagues, youth groups, and clubs, he ensured he never missed any of his son's games or practice sessions.

Mike only had one post and over three hundred followers on Instagram at the time of writing. However, outside his clash with Barrie in 2020, he never missed an opportunity to hop on Twitter and cheer on his son and the rest of his family.

Mike's daughter also inherited the family's athletic gene, as she has been playing volleyball since high school. After graduating, she enrolled at Missouri State University, where she plays for the university's volleyball team.

Mike also celebrates his daughter's achievements on social media, and during an interview, Mike's daughter revealed that she fell in love with volleyball with her brother, as the siblings used to practice together.
