Paris fashion week is upon us, multiple celebrities showed up in their best and most fashionable attire and designers got to show off months of their hard work.

Schiaparelli's couture show left the audience with their jaws dropped on Monday. But before the models got to strunt the runway, Kylie Jenner's outfit stole the show.

The TV personality wore a long black strapless velvet dress accessorized with a life-size lion head on the shoulder. She finished off the look with Schiaparelli's gold-toe pumps.

Jenner kept her accessories simple since her lion head broach spoke loudly enough. Her hair was kept in a slick ponytail, and the earrings were small gold studs.

Daniel Rosenberry, the designer of the collection, explained that "Inferno," a 14-century poem by Dante Alighieri, was the incite behind the designs. The author's life journey inspired the poem and he used three animals, the leopard, the wolf, and the lion, to represent the different sins in life.

Therefore, Rosenberry reimagined these three beasts into what he explained as the turmoil of doubt and creative torment that artists experience.

His design literally brought the animals to life, and Jenner's dress was featured on the runway, meaning she got to wear it before its official debut.

The mogul, Naomi Campbell, wore the wolf interpretation. She graced the runway wearing the boxy black faux fur coat with the head of the wolf showing from the shoulder.

Lastly, the Canadian model Shalom Harlow wore the snow leopard tube dress with the head of the leopard roaring from the bust of the dress.

Rosenberry made it clear that the life-like animals were completely fake and made from foam, but the realistic creation was difficult for some people to digest.

Many people on social media were also appalled by how Rosenberry chose to represent and use animals in his designs. Fans had a few things to say about the messaging of the collection.

How Did People React?

When the pictures and videos from Schiaparelli's couture show made it to social media, the reviews were harsh, especially concerning the animals.

Some people found it disturbing, while others thought the interpretation and messaging of the beasts were lost in translation. When Jenner posted her outfit, more fans blamed her for promoting animal abuse.

Many people also saw the collection as a cruel exploitation of animals for capital. Given the history of how animal skin was used for clothing and the current movements to save animal life, the designs did not hit the mark for some fans.

Therefore, a lot of the reactions questioned the designer's intention with his collection and his appreciation for wildlife. One user wrote, "Even if that's fake… what it symbolizes is repulsive. Can you imagine if someone wore a realistic decapitated human head as a fashion statement?"

Whether the lion, leopard, and wolf heads were made of faux materials, internet users had a problem with how a brand of this caliber influenced people. So another user expressed, "Real or not, this is beyond disturbing! This collection promotes cruelty. The message is basically that dead animals are "Luxury" and "Fashion."

Furthermore, the arguments revolved around how luxury brands commodified animals for many years. "We have to stop showing animals as luxury 'products.' They may be made from foam, but these are endangered species that have historically been killed for their pelts to be turned into garments." reiterated another user.

Instead of inspiring, fans thought the messaging behind the collection was rather haunting; another fan commented, "So sad (( even if those are totally fake the message behind it will cause a lot of uncontrollable hunting…."

What Did the Designers Say about the Dresses?

As the creator of these garments, the media was interested in finding out how Rosenberry had reacted to the uproar of his couture collection.

The designer explained that if art, in his case fashion, can evoke fear, then it has fulfilled its purpose because the world cannot exist without the good and the bad.

To put his analogy into perspective he quoted the poem behind his creation, "Inferno, Purgatorio, Paradiso: One cannot exist without the other," he concluded in the show notes. "It is a reminder there is no such thing as heaven without hell; there is no joy without sorrow; there is no ecstasy of creation without the torture of doubt."

The surrealist art movement, which encompasses itself in expressing real-life experiences in art, is one that fashion house has been a part of for many years.

The fashion house was founded and directed by Elsa. Schiaparelli in 1927, and the theme of fur, animal skin, and super-sized animals was part of their brand from the beginning. However, after Tod's group took over in 2012, they abandoned using real fur or anything from animals.

Therefore, the latest collection seemed to be inspired by the roots planted by Schiaparelli herself, but the current societal climate was torn on how to appreciate the work of art Roseberry presented.
