The petite blue-eyed blond was born into the Ashkenazi Jewish community in Canada on January 28, 1960. Sandra Sher became a teacher and is known to have worked as a florist.
She met Dennis Graham, a musician from Memphis, Tennessee, while he was performing in a Toronto nightclub in 1980. The couple welcomed their son Aubrey Drake Graham on October 24, 1986, but the marriage was over by the time their little boy was 5.
Dennis inspired the bitter lyrics in Drake's song about an absent father who skips out on child support and never visits his kid in the song "Take Care."
Sandi was left to raise her son alone while Dennis returned to the United States, where he would serve time on drug-related charges. It would be years before he became part of his son's life again.
Drake's "Incredible" Mom and the Guidance He Got from His Dad
Sandi raised Drake in her faith; he had a bar mitzvah and attended a Jewish school, but life was far from easy for the little family. Drake, who described Sandi as an incredible mother, would reveal:
"Everybody thinks I went to some private school and my family was rich. Maybe it's my fault. Maybe I haven't talked enough about it, but I didn't grow up happy. I wasn't in a happy home. My mother was very sick. We were very poor, like broke."
Sandi struggled with her health. She suffered from chronic joint and was bedridden and couldn't work for most of her son's childhood. Despite her problems, one thing Drake never lacked was love and support from Sandi.
Drake paid tribute to Sandi and how she raised him in the song "You and the Six," in which he credits her for making him the man he is and saving his life.
Dennis' influence on his son was less positive and hinged on what Drake witnessed of his father's relationship with Sandi. He said that the main lesson he learned from his father was what not to do:
"I was there when my mom used to be upset because of the things my father would do. In a rare moment of self-realization, my dad confirmed that I should treat women better."

Drake Made an SG Tattoo and Captioned the Photo with Mom's Name
In August 2022, Drake, who has numerous tattoos throughout his body, shared a snap on Instagram of a close-up of his left eye, next to which he had the initials SG tattooed in gothic script. He captioned the post simply:
"Sandra Gale 💖."
This is the first time Drake has tattoed his face, and he is clearly showing the world his mother's importance in his life. Sandi has declared that a parent is always essential in her child's life, something Drake will understand better since he became a father.
Sandi became the proud grandmother of little Adonis Graham on October 11, 2017. The little boy is his grandmother's mini-me, with her sweet blond curls and blue eyes.
