Cher's Son Celebrates 6th Anniversary of Marriage with Woman Welcomed by His Mom
-
Cher has always been devoted to her children.
-
After years of not seeing eye-to-eye, Cher became closer to her kids and finally reached a mutual understanding.
-
Now one of her sons is celebrating his wedding anniversary.
The 76-year-old pop icon Cher has been seen in public with the music producer Alexander "AE" Edwards, 36. Although Alexander is much younger than her, the musician has said love doesn't see age. She clearly implied that the 40-year age gap between her and Alexander didn't bother her at all.
Alexander is the latest on Cher's list of boyfriends. The pop singer has dated numerous famous men in the past, and she had children with two of them. Her first long romance was with her counterpart in Sonny & Cher, Sonny Bono. The two worked together for a long time and had a long-lasting relationship.
In 1969, Cher became a mother for the first time. As one of the most famous female musicians in the world, being a mother was very different from her usual routine, but Cher loved it. The pop star said having her first child, Chaz Bono (born Chastity), "changed [her] whole life." However, a few years after she had Chaz, Cher and Sonny divorced.
Their shared experiences and close bond became essential when Shara was diagnosed with breast cancer.
After her marriage to Sonny came to an end, Cher started seeing the musician Greg Allman. They soon said their vows, started their life together, and had a son. Elijah Blue Allman was born in 1976 but sadly, Cher and Greg didn't last either. However, Chaz and his partner are celebrating their 6th anniversary this year.
Cher's Son Is Happy Family Man: He Is in Love with an "Amazing Woman"
Cher's oldest son, Chaz, has found happiness with his latest partner, Shara Blue Mathes. The two met in 2017 and started dating soon after. That said, when they met, it didn't seem like they would be getting together any time soon. At the time, Shara had no intention of getting into a relationship.
Although the pop musician has had her differences with her kids in the past, she is a highly supportive and loving mother.
Luckily, a few months after he met Shara, the two started to bond over shared experiences and past trauma. Shara and Chaz had both been addicted to drugs, and both understood show business. Not only do Chaz and Shara share a background in acting, a source indicated that Cher adores Shara:
"When they are in the US they make a point to see one another's families. That is so important to them. Cher and her mom Georgia are treating Shara like family. They are delighted Chaz has found someone who makes him happy."
Their shared experiences and close bond became essential when Shara was diagnosed with breast cancer. When the news broke, Chaz stood by his partner's side, praising her "strength and dignity" during her treatments. Luckily, the couple have been able to celebrate their 6-year anniversary in January 2023.
"It Wasn't Easy": Cher Accepted Her Son
Cher has been close with her oldest son, Chaz, for years. Although the pop musician has had her differences with her kids in the past, she is a highly supportive and loving mother. When Chaz came out as transgender, Cher had some difficulty adjusting to the change. She remembered:
"It wasn't easy. Like I remember calling, and the old message — the old Chaz message was on the phone — and that was very difficult. But then you have one child, but you don't really lose them — they just are in a different shape."
Over the years, the famous singer had to learn to be more understanding of her son's choices. Admirably, she realized she hadn't lost a child and decided to work to mend their cold relationship. With time, Chaz and his mother grew closer, and he forgave her for not supporting him when he needed it most. He mentioned:
"It has been difficult for my mother, but I respect that. It's a process of grieving for a child you've lost and adjusting to the new one taking their place. We are developing a new relationship."
Cher also had to work on her relationship with her younger son, Elijah. Growing up with their mother on tour, the kids were often left to their own devices. Understandably, Cher had a tremendous amount to do while she was on the road, and the boys often felt she was absent.
On top of that, Elijah went to boarding school at the age of 7, which drove the wedge between him and his mother further. However, Cher has done her best over the years to nurse the situation, and it's clear the two have reconciled. The singer commented about her kids: "My life would have been nothing without them."
