A Hollywood power couple descended on one of London's most iconic venues, and they did not disappoint. But as glamorous as the evening was, it was a surprising fashion revelation that set the internet ablaze.

George and Amal Clooney were among the first to arrive on the red carpet at the King's Trust 50th Anniversary Celebration, held at the Royal Albert Hall on May 11, 2026.

The milestone event, which marks half a century of the charity's work supporting disadvantaged young people, drew an A-list crowd — with the Clooneys firmly leading the charge in the style stakes.

Amal was the undeniable standout of the evening, glowing in a liquid gold Alexander McQueen gown from the brand's Fall 2007 collection. The floor-length dress featured a geometric Art Deco embellishment pattern, a deep V-neckline, cap sleeves, and a figure-hugging silhouette.

She paired it with matching gold pointed-toe heels and a gold clutch, while her hair — styled in soft, brushed-through waves in a deep cocoa shade with golden milk feathery highlights — was done by celebrity stylist Dimitri, who dubbed the look "KitKat hair color and royal glow makeup."

Her makeup featured a warm, luminous golden finish courtesy of Charlotte Tilbury.

The gown, it turns out, has quite the history. It was previously worn by Cameron Diaz at the Tokyo premiere of "Shrek the Third" back in 2007 — nearly 20 years ago. The liquid gold embellishment and Art Deco patterning have clearly stood the test of time.

Fans were divided, though passionate, in their reactions. "Her dress is beautiful. Very Art Deco," one admirer gushed. "Much more elegant than in a short dress. Looks lovely," another agreed warmly.

"That's the first time I've seen her with him not wearing a short skirt. I prefer the longer dress outfit," a third enthused.

Not everyone was fully sold, however. "That dress makes her look weird, even though she normally has a perfect figure..." one viewer lamented.

"It certainly looks better on a redhead or blonde with hair in a classy bun or french twist," another weighed in critically.

One commenter was more blunt, writing, "Beutifull Amal beautufull dress not form fitting for her body [sic]."

George, 65, kept things classic in a sharp navy suit, white dress shirt, and a patterned tie, accessorised with his signature red-tinted aviator sunglasses. Fans noticed a few things about his appearance, too.

"George Clooney dresses well," one viewer said approvingly.

"Did George die his hair???" another puzzled aloud. A third eagle-eyed commenter remarked, "George Clooney's tan is very uneven across his forehead. He doesn't need to turn himself orange like others!"

Inside the venue, the couple had a memorable encounter with King Charles III and Queen Camilla. Amal shook hands with the King and reportedly told him she was "proud and grateful" to be involved in the youth opportunity charity.

George was equally gracious, telling the royal, "What can I say? Thank you for inviting me. We very much much appreciate it. Thank you."

The Clooneys also apparently struck up a conversation with Camilla — about makeup, of all things.

The evening's entertainment was hosted by British presenting duo Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, with performances from Sir Rod Stewart, Jools Holland, and Rita Ora.

The London appearance came just days after the couple were spotted on the French Riviera, celebrating George's 65th birthday. The pair enjoyed a long afternoon with friends at the legendary Club 55 beach club in Saint-Tropez, with birthday festivities reportedly having begun the day before on the exclusive Île de Bendor.

Amal looked effortlessly chic in a vibrant red boho-glam printed minidress, teamed with embellished black ankle boots and oversized sunglasses. George went casual and relaxed in white trousers, a black shirt, and tan suede shoes — the pair looking every inch the doting couple on a sun-drenched holiday.

The week prior, the Clooneys had stepped out together for the 51st Chaplin Award Gala in New York City, where George was the honoree. Speaking exclusively to People on the red carpet, he offered a rare and sweet glimpse into life with their 8-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander.

He admitted that watching his own films has become difficult with age. "It's hard to watch movies when you were younger because you're like, holy [expletive], that doesn't even look like me anymore," he confessed.

He made an exception, however, for 2009's "Fantastic Mr. Fox." "The kids are slowly figuring out what I do for a living," he laughed.

George also revealed that he had recently shown Alexander his 1997 film "Batman & Robin," after the boy dressed as the Caped Crusader for Halloween without realising his father had once played the role.

"I always say to him, 'You know I was Batman.' He's always like, 'No,'" George recounted with a laugh, adding, "It wasn't great for grown-ups, but it's great for 8-year-olds, so he loved it."
