Matt Offerman Was Also in 'Parks and Recreation' – All We Know about Nick Offerman's Brother
Matt Offerman is Nick Offerman's brother, occasional scene partner, and ad-hoc employee. He only briefly stayed in the entertainment industry, carving out a niche for himself in their hometown.
Nick Offerman's siblings can be very proud of their brother's performance in the third episode of "The Last of Us." Known for his tenure as the mustachioed Ron Swanson in "Parks and Recreation," the actor's nuanced portrayal of a gay man garnered him a new level of respect.
The Offerman brothers have worked together on the set of NBC's Pawnee, Indiana mockumentary and in the star's East Los Angeles wood shop, often appearing in each other's social media posts where they enjoy the great outdoors.

Nick Offerman's Brother Matt Shares His Love for Woodworking
Matt is a fully certified Incompetence Marshall. It is crucial to read that last sentence with a deadpan stony face a la Swanson, as it was in that same spirit that it was added to the woodworking professional's Offerman Wood Shop (OWS) profile.
The running joke about his incompetence continues on social media, as displayed in a March 2022 post where he proudly showed off one of his personal projects, a walnut dresser that took him "15ish years" to complete.
The carpenter's LinkedIn profile is written in the same slant, stating that he was awarded his bachelor's in Applied Science in beer drinking and cable television from Illinois State University in 1997. Matt has been involved at OWS in some capacity since January 2003.
Nick launched OWS, a "small collective of woodworkers and makers," in the 2010s from his wood shop in LA. The business sells products like custom furniture, mustache combs, and wooden greeting cards. They work alongside a charity that assists Skid Row residents with basic life necessities.
After a seven-year stint as a grade school janitor apprentice, Matt moved to LA to take up furniture restoration for three years. Between occasional jobs for OWS, he worked office jobs, first as team lead at No Red Tape Mortgage for four years and as a real-time coordinator at CaptionMax from 2007 to 2012.
While at CaptionMax, he also held the position of "archbishop" of Christ N' Sons Carpentry. He now resides in Illinois with his family, brewing beer at Iron&Glass. The Offerman brothers' birthday messages for each other reflect a shared interest in the outdoors from a young age.
Matt Offerman Also Had a Small Role in 'Parks and Recreation'
The writers of "Parks and Recreation" incorporated many elements of Nick's real life into his character, such as his love for the outdoors, woodworking, and his sense of humor.
So it is fitting that his real-life brother was brought in to portray his sibling, Don Swanson, in 2015 during an episode of the seventh season, "Ms. Ludgate-Dwyer Goes to Washington."
The brothers previously worked together when Matt played a mechanic in one episode of his brother's Comedy Central sitcom "American Body Shop" in 2007.
Matt was the construction coordinator on the 2004 short film "Killer Name," and stepped in front of the screen for the shorts "Pee Shy," "Meter Maids," and "How to Spot a Narcissist," lending his voice to "Sounds Good to Me: Remastering the Sting."
Lise and Matt have two daughters who have different tolerances for their father's "dad jokes."
His film credits include "L.A. Paranormal" and Paulie in the 2014 comedy "Live Nude Girls," making his final film appearance in the horror thriller "Lunar Effect" opposite Danny Trejo. He acted with another future "Parks and Recreation" star, Retta, in the TV film "Complex" in 2005.
Matt Offerman Is a Proud Girl Dad
The "L.A. Paranormal" actor's film and TV work are a side note to the part he committed to when he married Lise Offerman in September 2008. The self-professed lucky man declared on their 12th anniversary in 2020:
"Pretty sure this is the only audition I landed, and it's been a role of a lifetime."
Lise and Matt have two daughters, who get regular mentions by their dad online without disclosing their names. He does loads of outdoorsy activities with his kids, such as bass fishing and riding ATVs.
The couple supports gay rights and is sure to have been among the first to congratulate Nick on his performance opposite Murray Bartlett in "The Last of Us."
The straight actor received universal acclaim for his portrayal of a gay man during the apocalypse. This prompted a fan to name him co-president, alongside Stanley Tucci, of the 'cis-straight men who may play gay roles' club.
Matt's eldest has a low tolerance for his "dad jokes." In a post he called "performance art," his kid's reactions to a joke were chronicled in an Insta slideshow, with the younger child beaming up at her dad in the last snap while the older one cringes into her palm.
Matt and Nick's sisters reside in their hometown of Minooka, Illinois, of which their dad, Ric Offerman, was sworn in as mayor in May 2021. Carrie Offerman studied teaching, learning, and leadership at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.
In July 2022, Carrie used the promise of "triple-Offerman" to lure clients to Friday night drinks at Iron&Glass, where Matt poured the drinks, their mayor's dad met constituents, and she took the photographs.
Lauren Offerman works in the government department that Swanson hated the most – the public library. She has worked at the Three Rivers Public Library District since November 2004, holding the executive director position since January 2014.
She received her bachelor's degree in sociology and anthropology from the University of Illinois in 1991. The seasoned librarian hit the books again in 2005 and was awarded her master's in library and information studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
