Murray Bartlett Never Tried to Hide His Sexuality
Bartlett went public about his sexuality in the early 2000s. He said it was very unusual back then for people to accept one's sexual preferences. But he stated his mother and her gay friends were supportive and gave him the confidence to be himself.
Bartlett said that his professional team never made him feel discriminated against for his sexuality, and aside from playing gay roles, he also had opportunities to play other roles.
While opening up about his relationship with his partner, Bartlett talked about their different temperaments; he referred to his partner as his mountain.
Bartlett, however, admitted he may have missed some acting opportunities because of going public about his sexuality. He stated he wouldn't have wanted the role if it had made him feel miserable. In an interview, he said:
"It takes so much energy to be a person you are not."
Bartlett went public about his sexuality during an episode of "Sex and the City." Though he wasn't vocal about being gay, he didn't hide who he was. While some people at the time would have seen playing gay roles as a career-ending move, Bartlett was never bothered by that.

Even though the actor is open about his sexuality, he tries to keep his dating life private and has managed to keep it away from the spotlight. But we know that Murray Bartlett's partner's name is Matt. Although it's unclear if Matt is in showbiz, he has supported Bartlett's career.
While receiving his Emmy Award, he thanked his fans for the support and, most importantly, his mother and partner Matt, referred to the latter as his "Sanctuary."

At a roundtable interview, Bartlett spoke about how his partner reacted after watching him in "The Last of Us." He said his partner was affected by seeing him looking so old and miserable.
In 2019, Bartlett and his partner and their lab-border collie rescue, Bo, relocated to Provincetown, a small town on the Massachusetts coast, after living in New York for 20 years. He said his partner wanted to move from the big city and be close to nature. The pair live a quiet life in a beautiful place next to the ocean.
While opening up about his relationship with his partner, Bartlett talked about their different temperaments; he referred to his partner as his mountain:
"I could be going through this tornado of emotions, and then there's this mountain right beside me, and it's like WHOOSH."

In an interview, Bartlett got emotional and opened up about how he connected with his role in the series "The Last of Us." Though he said most of the roles he has played have taught him different lessons, he admitted his role in "The Last of Us" brought him some sort of revelation about himself that taught him many things he could relate to.
