Kathy Gerrity Had Been a Sportscaster - Facts about Steve Doocy’s Wife

This year will mark 37 years in Kathy Gerrity's marriage to Fox News anchor Steve Doocy. She once led a career as a news correspondent like her husband and recently became a first-time grandmother.

Although Kathy Gerrity married Steve Doocy on June 30, 1986, her husband consistently celebrated both the day she agreed to marry him and their wedding anniversary, as he shared annually on his social pages.

Yet, despite being married to a well-known news anchor, Gerrity preferred to keep a low profile and live a life hidden from the spotlight. Still, there have been a few glimpses based on her family's social media updates.

Kathy Gerrity Once Worked In Sports & Met Her Husband at WRC-TV

Much like Brendan Schoub's wife, Joanna Zanella, Kay Adams, and Courtney Richards, Gerrity had her own show on ESPN, working as a sports newscaster. However, she met her husband while working for the WRC sports department.

It's unclear when this first encounter occurred or how long they dated, but Doocy asked for Gerrity's hand in marriage on Valentine's Day of 1986. He celebrated the 31st anniversary of the momentous day on Facebook, writing:

"31 years ago on #valentinesday I proposed and Kathy Gerrity said YES! This picture was at that moment at the @palmrestaurant in DC. A great life started that night!"

Doocy shared those details alongside a throwback photo of him and Gerrity happily celebrating at The Palm restaurant. Gerrity donned a red loose-fitting dress cinched with a black leather belt.

She accessorized with an elaborate gold necklace that matched her well-groomed golden locks and what seemed to be a dark brown wristwatch. Doocy stood behind her with a wide and proud smile, donning a light blue button-up shirt with a dark blue cardigan.

After Gerrity said yes, her husband celebrated Valentine's day every year, ensuring she always got her roses. In 2019, she received a large bouquet of red roses, and this year, he left yellow roses alongside a sweet note sealed within a red envelope.

Gerrity and her husband moved out of Washington, D.C., to New York after having their son, Peter, to find a place that would be their only home. The couple wanted to raise their children in one place and did their best to stay true to that motive.

It was influenced by Doocy's own upbringing, growing up with a father who worked as a traveling salesman. He and Gerrity avoided having to uproot their kids' lives from one place to another and disrupting their childhood.

They relocated in 1989, and Doocy started working for the WCBS-TV network. He moved on to Fox News in 1996. He and Gerrity completed their family with daughters Sally and Mary in the following years. Their older brother, Peter, became a White House correspondent.

Her son welcomed a baby girl, Bridget Blake Doocy, this month with his wife, Hillary Vaughn. Gerrity's husband announced the exciting news on Instagram, sharing a photo of the new parents, who married in 2021, cradling their newborn.

Gerrity still maintained a private life and rarely graced the spotlight. Still, she made time for her family and frequently enjoyed outings with them. In September 2020, she and Doocy took their children to the lake to end the 2020 summer.

The following year, Peter shared a selfie of himself and Gerrity smiling wide as they enjoyed a day at the beach. He wished the mom of three, who donned a black V-neck t-shirt and a straw hat with a pink ribbon, a happy Mother's Day.
