Verde captioned professional photos of her in a tub, "my bby," with a green heart emoji on February 28, 2022. Snaps of her appear in slideshows geotagged in Mexico City, Joshua Tree, and "home" that year. They have done multiple photo shoots since 2020.

Minutes after Martinez posted the cover art from her new album "Portals" on social media on February 23, 2023, Verde also shared the imagery on both his Insta accounts' Stories.

"Cowboys Don't Cry," the lead single off the record, clearly references his ex-girlfriend's hit "Carousel" in its chorus: "We're riding around on this carousel if you catch my drift." The rest of the record includes songs of healing, "Doormat," and "Villain." Tree said:

Alternative Press Magazine captured the pair's easy repartee on October 2, 2020. Tree told the magazine that he'd only sit down for an interview if Martinez conducted it. The session devolved into a playful rant where he accused her of lying about being lactose intolerant, and she called him a lousy stalker and fool because she never said anything of the sort.

She ended the interview with what she deemed a very important question: Who is his celebrity crush? The "Alien Boy" singer responded in the same joking manner as he did with all the questions:

"I didn't want to say this, but she's literally the most beautiful woman in the world, and she goes by the name Melanie Martinez. Please marry me one day and have my children!"

She revealed in a 2016 interview that her boyfriend, Michael Keenan, helped decorate her place with creepy dolls and other vintage toys. They worked on her 2015 debut album "Cry Baby" and traveled the world writing her sophomore offering, "K–12," which he produced.

Keenan was born in Western Massachusetts and moved to Brooklyn after college, having spent much time in New York City. Martinez said that he had all the qualities that she wanted in a partner:

In November 2016, Heller tweeted a hypothetical situation about the impact of coming forward with abuse. Martinez tried to call her within 20 minutes, the first time she had done so in a year. Martinez texted Heller's boyfriend Mikey that she had a dream that inspired her to get in touch and suggested Heller consult a healer.

Heller claims that on June 25, 2015, her friend coerced her into playing a sexual game with fur-lined handcuffs over several hours.

Against the backdrop of the #MeToo movement that gained momentum after several women came forward with claims against producer Harvey Weinstein, Heller initially did not think her story fit because Martinez is a woman. Heller clarified:

"We remained friends for a while, but it was strange, obviously. I think I was invalidating my own experience for so long because she's not a man. Plus, she was my friend, and I sat with what happened in silence because I didn't want to be malicious."

Heller and Martinez became close during the "Dollhouse" tour in 2014, where Heller's former band Dresses was the opening act. Martinez abruptly ended the friendship in a text stating that she couldn't have anyone distracting her at that point in her career.

According to Heller, a physic told the singer to cull people from her life if she wanted to win a Grammy. "The Voice" alum's rep pointed CNN to the singer's Twitter statement when asked for a comment. All the tweets from both parties have since been deleted.
