Tony Stewart's Wife Leah Pruett Supports Him at the Track and He Returns the Favor
Leah Pruett, Tony Stewart's wife, and the race car driver tied the knot less than a year after announcing their engagement on Instagram. As professional drivers from different racing worlds, the power couple in professional motorsports have made it a point to always support each other.
Fellow driver Marco Andretti took to Instagram to provide a glimpse of Pruett and Stewart's ceremony when he posted a video on Instagram on Sunday, November 21, of the crowd of guests clapping and cheering as Pruett and Stewart walked down the aisle as husband and wife.
Their relationship began in 2019 before Covid-19 hit American shores. However, the lockdown allowed the couple to spend time together. And what was meant to be a four-day holiday turned into a fourth-month stay for Stewart and marriage for the couple.
Tony Called His Wife "Motivated, Hard Working, [And] Funny"
In 2022, Stewart and Pruett said "I do" during an extravagant wedding ceremony in Los Cabos. Andretti shared a sneak peek of the festivities and the wedding location on his Instagram story.
He also posted a picture of "Mr. & Mrs. Stewart" written in the sand on a massive stretch of the beach and another snap of him with the newlyweds from their special day eight months after they announced their engagement on Instagram.
In a heartfelt post, Pruett shared, "Thought no better time to share our engagement than right now, after the Tour De Florida clutch dust settled .... Checking out hot rods and cruising the Havasu strip with my husband-to-be..." She added:
"The undeniable level of love, happiness, and soulfulness we have together is monumental. He might run in circles, but is the straightest shooter and the salt of this earth... looking forward to a lifetime of sunrises and sunsets that the Lord has gifted us together. Love you babe!"
Stewart also announced the news of their engagement on his social media, and in a series of pictures, he shared photos of Pruett's engagement ring and of the couple walking hand-in-hand in Lake Havasu City, checking out hot rods on the strip.
"So excited to spend the rest of my life with a truly amazing woman. She's motivated, hard-working, funny as hell, and as dedicated to her sport as anyone I've ever known. Love you, babe," he wrote.
They Were Introduced to Each Other via Facetime
Legendary racer Don Prudhomme introduced Pruett and Stewart over Facetime in 2019. Their in-person meeting did not come until later when they attended the same motorsports event appearance, and their first date came a week before the country-wide pandemic in March.
For the first time in his professional career, Stewart was without something to do, so when Pruett invited him to spend four days with friends at Lake Havasu in Arizona, he accepted.
He wound up staying for four months, and by the time his racing schedule started up again, Pruett followed Stewart across Oklahoma and Texas. He also became a regular spectator at her events when she resumed drag racing. During an interview, he said:
"My personal life is the best it's ever been by far. She gets me. And I enjoy going to her events and being the one doing the supporting. I mean, if she wanted me to support her at basket-weaving competitions, I probably wouldn't enjoy it, but I am very happy with this relationship and where my life is right now."
They Support Each Other's Sport
Stewart attended sessions at Frank Hawley's Drag Racing School to get an in-depth understanding of Pruett's racing field. And as two busy professionals, the couple created a master calendar to keep track of all their events with the hopes that Stewart could attend most of Pruett's races.
After Stewart's retirement from full-time driving— joining Sebastian Vettel as a retired professional from motorsports— and following the couple's 2022 wedding, they announced their plans for Stewart to join Pruett in the National Hot Rod Association.
Stewart shared that he had always appreciated all types of racing, mainly drag and hot rod. However, meeting Pruett allowed him to deepen his knowledge of the field of racing. During an interview, Stewart said:
"...But it wasn't until I met Leah and started going to races regularly, where I saw the strategy and the preparation firsthand, that I truly understood it."
In October 2022, Stewart's team released a statement that Pruett and another driver would compete in the National Hot Rod Association under Stewart's new entry into the National Hot Rod Association series, Tony Stewart Racing.
Aside from working with Pruett, Stewart also takes to Instagram to show his support for his wife. In 2021, Pruett spoke at an event, and her husband shared a picture of her at the podium.
And in the post's caption, he wrote, "Extremely proud of my future wife's speech at the @MotorsportsHOF induction ceremony last night. She makes me proud of her every day."
Stewart celebrated one of Pruett's racing achievements in August of that same year and shared, "So proud of @Leah.Pruett and her team. Overcame adversity a couple weeks ago to get to the finals the last 2 weeks. Hard work works."
A month earlier, the power couple featured in a magazine, and Stewart shared behind-the-scenes footage from their shoot and them posing for the camera.
In the caption, he typed, "Our feature story with @DragIllustrated has officially launched, and I couldn't be prouder of how it turned out. This is @Leah.Pruett's third appearance on the cover, so I'm the new guy around here. 😎 Head to Stories to give it a read."
