Lucy is a highly regarded New Zealand icon. She is best known for her unforgettable portrayal of Xena in "Xena: Warrior Princess," the 1995 fantasy-adventure series that catapulted her to instant cult TV stardom.

Born on March 29, 1968, in Mount Albert, Auckland, Lucy is the daughter of Julie, a teacher, and Frank Ryan, a banker and former city mayor.

Besides her famous series, which ended in 2002, Lucy has also made a name for herself in the entertainment world by appearing in several TV shows such as "Battlestar Galactica," "Top of the Lake," and "Parks and Recreation."

She starred alongside Adam Sandler in the hit movie "Bedtime Stories." Lucy has accomplished a lot in TV and movies, so it's no surprise that her fans are interested in her love life.

Lucy Lawless Has Been Married Twice: Get To Know Her Husbands

Most of Lucy's fans are unaware that she has been married twice. Her first husband, Gareth Lawless, was a grape picker and gold miner with whom she had traveled around Europe and Australia.

Due to Lucy's character having a female love interest named Gabrielle, played by actress Renée O'Connor, there have been questions about her identity.

In 1988, Lucy, then 18, tied the knot with Gareth in Western Australia. Details about their relationship were scarce, but it was reported that their marriage lasted only seven years.

Lucy later married her second husband, Rob Tapert, a producer, writer, and actor. The multi-hyphenate, who gained fame for the films "Timecop," "Darkman," and "30 Days of Night," has been married to Lawless since March 1998.

The actress was 30, and Taper was 43 when they exchanged vows that year. Since tying the knot, Lucy has enjoyed collaborating with her second husband on several projects. She said:

"We're so used to it and we work really well together, and we never occupy the same niche."

Lucy Lawless Has Two Sons and a Daughter Who Is Also in Showbusiness

Lucy has three children, one of whom has been following in her footsteps in the entertainment industry. Her daughter, Daisy Lawless, is a voice actress who dabbled in the casting and editorial departments.

While Daisy's involvement in the casting department is unknown, her most recent position was as an apprentice editor for the 2018 film "The Meg" in the editorial department.

She also worked as an assistant editor on the TV series "Spartacus." Daisy, born in July 1988 in Auckland, is Lucy's child with Gareth. Daisy has two stepbrothers: Judah Miro and Julius Robert.

Judah and Julius are Lucy and Rob's sons, who are now in their 20s. Julius was born in October 1999, while Judah was born in May 2002.

Little is known about the couple's sons. Still, in 2016, Lucy shared a photo on Instagram, among other snapshots, indicating that she enjoyed expressing her affection for her children online besides in real life.

Lucy is the proud mother of three children, but her famous fictional character, Xena, has made her a gay icon. She said in 2022 that being named one was "bloody great."

Due to Lucy's character having a female love interest named Gabrielle, played by actress Renée O'Connor, there have been questions about her identity. The characters' platonic relationship evolved into a romantic love that left many fans curious when the show aired.

Although Lucy is not gay, she revealed in a 2003 Lesbian News that their TV characters were married, and the producers knew it. Aside from that, the show featured African-American lovers and transgender stars long before diversity became a controversial topic.

Lucy is proud to be part of a TV show that is "really progressive." She has also strongly supported the LGBTQ+ community, even attending similar events in New Zealand and Australia.

She said in a 2015 Stuff interview that she visited a local drag show in a small town in America known for its conservative and religious views. In there, the town's drag stars recognized her and praised her iconic character.

Lucy believes that being gay is normal and not an issue nowadays. While she recognizes that not everyone accepts homosexuality in some parts of the world, she believes everyone should strive for "total equality."

Lucy is one of many Hollywood stars who support the LGBTQ+ community today. Other notable celebrities sharing the same views as the actress include actors Elliot Page, Jim Parsons, and TV host Ellen DeGeneres.
