Melanie Griffith Praises 'Magnificent' Jamie Lee Curtis for Her Oscar Win: 'Congratulations Filled with Love'
Melanie Griffith and Jamie Lee Curtis have found a true friendship since they were cast together in a Hy Averback movie at the start of the 1980s. When Curtis finally got her Academy Awards recognition, her friend could not contain her excitement.
After several decades of acting in Hollywood, veteran actress Jamie Lee Curtis finally got an Oscar. It is the 64-year-old's first Oscar win and her first-ever nomination at the prestigious event. Curtis got emotional as her deceased parents were nominated for Oscars without success.
Her win made her the eighth oldest performer to walk away with the trophy in the Best Supporting Actress category. This comes after she gave in to the belief that she would never be nominated for an Oscar award.
Curtis' father and mother were nominated in 1959 and 1963, respectively. The audience at the event was elated when Curtis was announced as the winner, but they were not the only people excited to see her clinch the trophy. Curtis's good friend Melanie Griffith took to Instagram to congratulate her on her historic win.
Griffith shared a snapshot of Curtis during her acceptance speech and wrote in the caption, "Brava beautiful Jamie!!! You did it. You are magnificent! Extraordinary! Congratulations filled with love!" Griffith's excitement on Instagram, and her praiseworthy words showed the love between them.
Griffith, the daughter of Tippie Hendren, has a friendship with Curtis that dates back to 1980 when they were cast alongside Kathleen Quinlan in "She's in the Army Now." Griffith recalls that they might have met each other prior to the casting but notes that their friendship began on the set of Hy Averback-directed movie.
Their friendship began with a little bit of mischief, as Griffith once revealed about Curtis and herself, "She was a very professional and very strong and very good actress—and so much fun. We had so much fun. We were so much trouble."
Their relationship has remained solid over the years, and the "She's in the Army Now" stars continue to support each other in the events of their careers. In addition to their collaboration in film and the affection they do not hesitate to show for each other publicly, the budding duo was once the subjects of an interview with both actresses asking the questions. The discussion covered topics like getting started in acting, staying mentally fit in Hollywood, and aging.
Curtis began the interview by asking, "Why do we call each other Miss Kiss?" Griffith dismissed the question she seemingly found complex before revealing that she and Curtis had been friends for four decades. She continued, "We've been through a lot, together and separately. But I have to say, I admire you so much, Jamie. You're an icon."

During the interview, Curtis touched on her soon-to-be 39-year marriage with Christopher Guest, saying that before their wedding, they did not really know each other and had not spent over four consecutive days together, but she wanted to make it work.
Curtis also thanked her husband during her acceptance speech at the Oscar awards. The actress was awarded for her performance in "Everything Everywhere All at Once." The actress, a friend of James Corden, was also awarded at the Screen Actors Guild Awards earlier this year for the same role.
