In March 2023, Kelly Clarkson appeared on "The Angie Martinez IRL Podcast," where she candidly discussed single motherhood for the first time. Her open interview came two years after she divorced the father of her children.
The country music singer revealed that one of the things she did to ensure she was raising her children right. The star said each night when she was snuggling and putting her children to bed she asked them if they were happy.

Clarkson shared that if the answer wasn't a positive one, she'd ask the children what would make them happy. However, for the past two years, their responses hadn't been positive, and she confessed, “It kills me!”
Despite that, she wanted them to be honest and didn't discourage them from telling her the truth. The star revealed that sometimes her children admitted to being really sad, with them stating:
“I wish Mommy and Daddy were in the same house.”

Even though their responses sometimes hurt, Clarkson wanted them to honest with her and she was doing her best. The best part was that coming from a divorced family herself, the musician related, but she vowed to her children that they would work it out together.
"The Kelly Clarkson Show" host also promised her children that they were loved by both her and their father. The star believed in communicating with her offspring, and allowing them to have their big feelings.

In October 2020, the mother of two opened up about her feelings towards her ex-husband. The vocalist admitted that she found it was the most "ridiculous thing sometimes" that after being deeply in love with someone people would ask why you couldn't get over them quickly, with her stating:
"I think I might always still love that person.”
Clarkson also confessed that she didn't think that feeling went away. Sadly, the singer's divorce from her husband was a messy one, where she was the one who decided to call it quits.

What Unreasonable Requests Did Brandon Demanded before Kelly Won the Fight for Their Children?
The source revealed that Brandon wanted his children to travel between Los Angeles to where he lived in Montana. Otherwise, they had to stay in Montana despite Los Angeles being "undeniably" their "home base."
The court found that the children hadn't lived in Montana, and ordered their father to travel to Los Angeles. He would have parenting time and visitation at his ex-wife's Woodvale residence, and in November 2020, a judge ruled that Clarkson would have primary custody of River Rose and Remington Alexander.
It was discovered that it was in the best interest of the children to continue receiving the same stability they'd always known. The court noted that the conflict between Brandon and Clarkson had increased and they struggled co-parenting due to their issues of trust.
