Dean Cain Sacrificed Career to Raise Son Alone — Inside Their Cozy Home with a 'Breathtaking' View
Actor Dean Cain not only played the world's most popular superhero on television, but he became a hero in real life by giving up a lot to raise his son. He was about to become one of the best-paid television actors then, but being at home with his son was more important. Cain also opened up his home to the public, revealing more about his life with his son.
When Dean Cain became a single father, he gave up career opportunities at the height of his fame to raise his child. The actor first shared custody of his son, Christopher, with ex-partner Samantha Torres before gaining sole custody. His son is older now, but the actor has not forgotten how to hold a baby, as evident in the photo below.
Following Cain's split from Christopher's mother, the court gave them joint custody of their son. At the time, Christopher was only 2.
But in 2011, with the blessing of Torres, Cain gained full custody of Christopher, prompting him to make huge career sacrifices for the sake of his son. The actor, who has no regrets, has talked about the experience openly. He told Fox News Digital:
"It affected my career like I can't even explain. I turned down being one of, if not the highest-paid actor on television, for a show that ended up going six years."

Cain recalled being offered a fantastic deal, but he was fighting with his ex-girlfriend at the time and it was simply not possible to take it. It was choice between the job and being a father, and he admitted it only took him a "split second" to choose his son.
Cain and his ex battled in court for 18 months before the judge finally ruled for joint custody of Christopher in 2003. He would later get sole custody after Torres agreed that it was better for the boy to live in one home and not shuttle between two homes.

The actor also told Fox News Digital that his son needed to come before anything else, mainly because he was an adopted son of his stepfather. When Christopher Cain, the famous director, married Sharon Thomas in 1969, he decided to adopt her sons, one of them being Cain. That's why the actor named his child Christopher, after his stepdad. Cain added:
"As soon as I was presented the choice, it was like, 'I'm going to be a dad. My father adopted me when I was 4, and I know how important that was for my life."
The actor also revealed that having his father by his side played a significant role in his life, something he wanted for his son too. He explained:
"Fathers in the home is such a huge, important issue here in America and all throughout the world. The statistics bear it out how much more likely a kid is, especially a son, to be in jail or in trouble without a father in the household."
Cain expressed that he wouldn't change a thing about his decision, even if others think he could've tried balancing both. As such, he always made sure every choice he made moving forward was in consideration of his son.
For instance, Cain made sure Christopher was top of mind when choosing his movie projects, opting for child-friendly films because the young Christopher would always join him at the set. While the films were not blockbusters, he was fine with them because he knew his son's friends would be watching them.
Cain also considered the amount of time he would be away from his son when choosing his projects. The actor explained:
"I couldn't leave for four months. Who is going to raise my son? No, it's not going to happen. So, I did not, and I made films that he could be around. I made different kinds of films as well, but I saw how those affected him, and I was like, 'This is great.'"

Most people know Cain best for playing Superman on "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" in the '90s, but he admitted that raising his child was the "toughest role" he has ever had. The actor told People that Christopher was his "favorite person" and they share a "special bond."
While he has sole custody, Christopher's mother is still in his life, which is better because Cain prefers to be the fun parent. "You know that saying 'Momma says don't play ball in the house?' Well, we play. We chase each other, you can walk on virtually any piece of furniture," he shared.
Cain Values His Privacy But Has Shared Details of His Home
In 2004, Cain bought a five-bedroom, four-bathroom house in Malibu, California, with 3,302 square feet of property for $2.59 million. There's a free-standing tub in the main suite and even a waterfall that turns the terrace into a paradise island.
Cain's home appeared on a segment of "Through the Keyhole" on ITV, where the host gave the contestants, including Caitlyn Jenner, clues about the home's owner. Host Keith Lemon toured the home, showing the spacious kitchen and a gaming chair on the dining table. Lemon also checked out the fridge which was full of healthy food.
To clue guests in on who the home's owner is, Lemon made puns using the words "kryptonite" and "superfoods" so the contestants could guess who owned the house.

He also boasted about his home's amazing view on Instagram. In a post on October 24, 2020, he uploaded a picture of a wonderful sunset visible from his pool area on a terrace.
Considering the size of the house, it makes sense that Cain's living room would be considerably big. There are French doors that guide you towards a terrace along with a dining room, which is a lot more formal than the dining table in the kitchen. There's also a breakfast spot with a glass wine tower. All in all, it's the dream home.
The private million-dollar home also has a pool, where Lemon took a dip while recording the segment. Pool chairs surround it, and there's a barbecue grill for parties. You can see more details of his home and living on Instagram.

Photos of his backyard reveal a Gensun outdoor dining set. The pool sits to one side, with a comfortable hot tub built next to it and surrounded by rock planks, giving it a natural look.
Meanwhile, the terrace leads to a beautiful green lawn, rocks, and bushes along a wrought-iron fence. But the view of the ocean is the most breathtaking part of Cain's house. It's the perfect place for family time, and young Christopher enjoys it with his half-siblings.
His mom comes by often with her twins Elijah and Isabelle. Speaking about his relationship with Torres's children, the actor said:
"I'd do anything for those two … It can be defined as a broken home, but if you hang out at our house, that's the last thing you'll think."

Cain has a nice office in his home where he holds his online interviews and plays games on his computer. His son even recorded funny videos of him in that room and uploaded them for fans to see.
The room's décor follows some of the themes of the house. The walls are a deep red, and his desk is a mahogany beauty. The room includes a sofa, office equipment, photos, artwork, and a display of his trophies. At the time of the video, Cain was playing World of Warcraft.
The 56-year-old health buff also has a treadmill in his office, where he also displays memorabilia, including pictures of his time as a reserve officer with the police department of Idaho, basketball T-shirts and images of games.
His Son Christopher Is 22 Years Old
In the beginning, things might have been tricky between Cain and Torres, as they both wanted different things for their child. However, the actor fought to have a huge part in raise his child, even through terrible pain. In an exclusive with Daily Mail TV in 2019, Cain talked about dealing with chronic pain.
"I've been waiting for technology to catch up," he stated. The actor received a stem cell injection in his knee to try to combat the pain from an old football injury. Cain joined the NFL after graduating college, but he had already undergone knee surgery following an injury during his school days.
When he joined the Buffalo Bills, he hurt the same knee again. A cartilage from the lateral meniscus had to be removed, and a defect on the bone was discovered, forcing him to leave the NFL. The actor managed to remain active, but it never stopped hurting.
Other celebrities and famous figures have also turned to stem cells for solutions to their chronic pain. Stars like Cate Blanchett and Sandra Bullock have used stem cells for anti-aging. Cain's doctor said that his injection had mesenchymal stem cells from the umbilical cords of full-term babies.
However, each injection costs $10,000, and patients have to wait two weeks before they can start to feel better. The actor said he didn't have many expectations but hoped they would help with swelling, pain, and mobility.

"Chilling with family in Spain 🇪🇸 before the boy starts college— what am I gonna do without him? #EmptyNest"
Cain has posted several pictures of his pride and joy on Instagram, sometimes marveling at how old he has gotten so quickly. Christopher still hangs out at home, and the photos show him chilling with his dad and the dogs.
