"Quantum of Solace" Bond Girl Gemma Arterton gave her "two cents" on who she thinks should be the next James Bond. A fan-favorite to play 007 also addressed years of speculation earlier this year.

Gemma Arterton confidently said in an interview with The Guardian published on Sunday, "I'd love to see a younger actor of color," adding that she thinks it's the franchise's most likely move. She portrayed Strawberry Fields in the 2008 iteration of the James Bond franchise opposite Daniel Craig.

Idris Elba ended the speculation about the character that "begins with a 'J' and ends with 'B'" last month, stating he is not going to "be that guy." He affirmed that he is John Luther, a role he's embodied in five seasons of "Luther." The British series launched its potential movie franchise in 2023 with "Luther: The Fallen Sun."

Criticism Followed Gemma Arterton for Some Time Following Her Stint as Bond Girl

Arterton went up against 1,500 other actresses to get the part of Strawberry Fields. The 21-year-old was at the beginning of her career, "poor as a church mouse," and just glad to have gainful employment despite the criticism she received for being part of a movie tradition that many believe has an outdated stance on gender roles.

Her husband, Rory Keenan, thinks she is like her "Funny Women" character.

Reflecting on the part years later, she saw much wrong with "Bond Women." She reckoned that Fields should have worn flats and just said "no. "

With "The King's Man," the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art graduate had another foray into the spy genre as the quick and brilliant Polly who runs a network of spies. Speaking about her comedy series, "Funny Women," in March 2023, Arterton said that she considers the "physicality" of her roles:

"That's always been my 'in,' more than a character's backstory. Sometimes you can get too cerebral with acting, but actually, if you start moving your body, it triggers things."

Though she has often played "switched-on" and poised women, Alderman sees herself as "quite silly" in real life. Her husband, Rory Keenan, thinks she is like her "Funny Women" character.

The actress launched the production company Rebel Park in 2013 to boost female representation and talent in the entertainment industry. She told the Guardian in 2023 that she produces most of the projects she is involved in now in some capacity, always aiming for a "50:50 gender balance."
