Carrie Fisher always had an unusually complicated relationship with her mother, Debbie Reynolds. Reynolds shared her daughter and a younger son with the immensely famous vocalist Eddie Fisher, and life as the children of two Hollywood icons could be tricky to traverse.
Although Fisher and her brother had ample financial support, they learned to deal with Hollywood scandals at a young age following their mother's three marriages. They also saw what life was like in the limelight, getting used to the constantly prying eyes of newsagents and curious fans alike.

As Fisher grew up, she drifted further and further away from her mom. Fisher recalled that her mother's fame started to drive a wedge between them, saying people would often clamber over her to get to her mother whenever they were seen in public. Life as an actress' daughter drove her away from regular people when she wanted to fit in.
The post showed snaps from their night out, and Lourd also included a few photos showing her life as a young mom.
By the time Fisher reached her 20s, she had started to resent her mom. Not even her role in the original "Star Wars" films could afford her a reputation other than Debbie Reynolds' daughter. She struggled to live life without her mom's immense popularity dogging at her heels.

So, for ten whole years, Fisher and Reynolds barely spoke. Fisher's relationship with her father was practically nonexistent. Family scandals tainted their father-daughter bond, especially after he had an affair with her mom's best friend, Elizabeth Taylor. Fisher remarked, "[my father] defined me more by his absence than by presence."
Without her father to provide emotional support and an increasingly volatile relationship with her mom, Fisher was mostly on her own as she started to make her way in show business. During the ten years of silence between her and Reynolds, Fisher was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and developed a drug addiction.
Luckily, the actress was sent to a rehabilitation center in 1985. Here, she reconnected with her mother after years of antagonism between them. Despite the lingering bitterness, both still immeasurably loved one another, and they managed to repair their relationship.

Sadly, Fisher never had the chance to reconnect with her father. The singer lashed out at his two former lovers in the form of a scathingly candid autobiography detailing his affair. Fisher forgave him after he passed, though, stating solemnly, "He's not the sort of bastion of good judgement, but he's really fun."
Carrie Fisher's Only Child Gave Birth: She Reveals Her Life
Despite her rocky start in life, Fisher went on to make a great success of herself and even started a family of her own. Fisher's daughter, Billie Lourd, followed in her mother and grandmother's footsteps, carving out a career in Hollywood for herself.
Years after they worked through their problems, Reynolds and Fisher were almost inseparable.
Lourd's father, Bryan Lourd, was never officially married to her mother, and he is now married to Bruce Bozzi. Lourd shares an exceptionally close bond with her stepdad. For his birthday, the actress posted a series of photos and videos of them having fun together over the years.

The images range from Bozzi and Lourd having fun in the city, to the two of them dancing together at a wedding and enjoying the sunlight on a beach. In the caption, she thanked Bozzi for being like a father to her and wished him the best of birthdays. The caption read:
"Happy birthday to the best s’dad, friend, ultimate shimmy partner and grandest grandpa in the land!!! We love you beyond the beyond!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY @brucebozzi !!!!"
Lourd also keeps her followers updated on other developments in her life via her Instagram page. The actress wished her husband, Austin Rydell, a happy 30th birthday. The accompanying photo showed Lourd and Rydell sharing a moment at their wedding, giggling happily at each other.
Lourd wore a lovely white wedding dress, while her husband looked sleek in a traditional black suit. In the caption, Lourd mentioned how happy Rydell makes her and how in love she is with him. She noted that Rydell makes her, "the giddiest gal in the universe," and said she never laughed so hard before she met him. She finished by saying:
"Anyway I'm not gonna write a novel on this here instagram post but I could write a whole stack o novels about how much I love you!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADDI!!!"
Lourd and Rydell also have children together, the youngest of which was born six years after her grandmother's death. Lourd refrained from showing their child's face on Instagram, but she showed a date night after spending a long time at home caring for the newborn. The lengthy caption explained how happy she was to have a night out.
The post showed snaps from their night out, and Reynolds' granddaughter also included a few photos showing her life as a young mom. She shared a selfie of her holding a diaper, another of the view from their home, and one last image of their front door with a sign that proudly read, "Lourd Rydell."
Debbie Reynolds Dies a Day after Daughter: Her Grandchild Billie Pays Tribute to Them
Years after they worked through their problems, Reynolds and Fisher were almost inseparable. The two spent the last 15 years of their lives right next door to each other, making up for lost time. Sadly, Fisher passed away in December 2016.
The actress died of a heart attack while flying back from filming one of the new "Star Wars" movies. She was on her way to celebrate Christmas with her family when the heart attack struck. Fisher was taken to a hospital but tragically didn't make it.
After four days in the hospital, Fisher breathed her last breath on December 27. The very next day, Reynolds suffered a fatal stroke, causing her to follow her beloved daughter to the grave. Todd Fisher, Reynolds' son, ruled the cause of her death as heartbreak after losing her daughter.
Lourd paid tribute to her mother and grandmother in two Instagram posts. The actress lamented the fact that her mom won't be there to see her grandchildren grow up, and mentioned that she wished her mom was still with her. In her other post, she encouraged her followers to remember those they've lost, writing, "Don't grieve in silence. You're not alone."
