Amanda Bynes Gets Support from 'Heartbroken' Fans after She Sought Help amid Public Mental Breakdown

According to reports, Amanda Bynes was wandering the streets of Los Angeles naked on Sunday when she flagged down a car and called 911 after disclosing she had a "psychotic episode." She was placed on a 5150 psych hold. Per TMZ, her hospital stay is likely to be extended past the standard 72-hour hold.

Over a three-part thread, Sophia Bush tweeted that she's "heartbroken" but "rooting" for Amanda Bynes, "I hope she can get the support she needs & deserves. Simultaneously, it's an incredible sign of the work that she has done to know that she assessed herself & sought help mid-crisis…."

Essayist Bassey Ikpi wrote that the comedian calling 911 herself gives her hope, "That's a huge deal. When she's ready, I hope she can be proud of herself for that." A fan agreed, "she's gonna pull thru." A second fan praised Bynes's comedic talent and still thinks of her as the teenage Carol Burnett.

Amanda Bynes Was Seen Walking around in the Days Leading up to the Incident

On Friday, Amanda was spotted dropping by Palmas Smoke Shop's weekly hip-hop gig on Hollywood Boulevard. An eyewitness told ET that the star did not stay long and had no issues. She was reportedly celebrating St. Patrick's Day at a nearby bar.

A judge granted Lynn Bynes temporary conservatorship of her daughter in 2013. "The What a Girl Wants" star gave the court sufficient evidence to have the conservatorship terminated in March 2022.

Following the court victory, she told ET that she has been working hard on her mental health over the last few years for her to "live and work independently," adding, "I will continue to prioritize my well-being in this next chapter."
