Martin Short is a brilliant and respected actor in the entertainment industry. He wouldn't be where he is now if not for his beloved children whom he shared with his late wife.

Oliver Patrick Short Had No Interest Going into Show Business despite Dad's Encouragement

As the children of a famous actor, Oliver and his siblings were exposed to show business at an early age. Martin encouraged them to pursue acting careers, providing them with acting lessons.

However, Martin also taught his children to be independent and tough and find their own life paths. Oliver had a different career in mind from a young age, and despite his father's wishes, he decided to pursue a career in finance.

Oliver is the middle child in his family, with an older brother named Henry and a younger sister named Katherine. When Oliver and his siblings were young, their mother put her acting career on hold to care for them.

Oliver's parents, Martin and Nancy Dolman, met in 1972 during the production of "Godspell" and married in 1980. Despite Nancy's acting career, she chose to stay home and raise their children while Martin pursued his successful film and TV career.

In 2010, cancer took away Oliver's mother, Nancy, leaving him and his family devastated.

Oliver Leads a More Private Life than His Dad but Made Rare Red Carpet Appearances Before

Unlike his father, Oliver leads a quieter life away from the limelight. But his father's career had thrust him into the spotlight at red-carpet events in the past. He also appeared in public photos alongside his parents and siblings, including an adorable 1989 photo in Los Angeles, California.

Like Oliver, his siblings are also not that public with their life and prefer to live almost anonymously. One of his siblings is a therapist, and the other is a wealth manager.

Oliver's dad is just one of the celebrity parents who rarely share about their children. Similarly, actors like Ryan Gosling and Blake Lively follow the same approach as a way to protect their kids' privacy.

Oliver Lost His Mother to Cancer in 2010 & Had a Special Way to Celebrate Her Life

In 2010, cancer took away Oliver's mother, Nancy, leaving him and his family devastated. However, rather than succumbing to grief, they decided to unconventionally pay tribute to her memory.

Oliver's dad honored Nancy's request for a party, and family members and friends were present. During the unique ceremony, Martin and his children rode a boat, sprinkled the ashes in the water, and they "jumped into the ashes."

Oliver and his siblings strengthened their father to continue living and moving forward. Martin stated that he might have decided to step back from public life if he did not have children.

However, he emphasized that with three kids, they look up to him to determine the family's future course of action. He also feels responsible as the head of the family to ensure that they remain a unified front.
