Farrah Fawcett found instant stardom when she played a role in 1976's "Charlie's Angels." The poster shot before she appeared in the role made her a sex symbol when it was released that same year.

The actress only featured on the show for one season and then found praise by starring in the off-Broadway play "Extremities" and the film "The Burning Bed" in the mid-1980s. The former University of Texas sorority girl earned her first Emmy Award nomination for appearing as an abused wife.

By 2006, Fawcett had to undergo radiation and chemotherapy after being diagnosed with anal cancer. The star was declared cancer-free before the disease returned the following year, leading her to continue treatment.

Her family's illegal substance issues made headlines while she received treatment, but she stayed positive. Alana Stewart, a co-producer of "Farrah's Story" and her friend, said this about the actress:

"She's always been positive. Her spirits have always been good throughout this ordeal."

Sadly, on June 25, 2009, Fawcett died at 62 in Los Angeles after battling anal cancer. The star's longtime companion, Ryan O'Neal, admitted that the loss was difficult for the actress's family and friends, but they found comfort in the "beautiful times" they'd shared with her.

Ryan also said knowing how the late star's life brought happiness to many people worldwide comforted them. Before Fawcett passed, she bravely appeared in Stewart's documentary, touching on her relationship with her boyfriend.

Her partner stood by her side and supported her through her treatment. During a "20/20" appearance, Ryan, then 68, confessed to Barbara Walters that he'd asked Fawcett to marry him again after they'd been together for almost 25 years.

The pair were set to tie the knot as soon as the actress was well enough to agree or nod her head. Ryan revealed that he always asked her hand in marriage, and it became a joke they laughed about, but he vowed they'd walk down the aisle one day; sadly, she died before she could.

The star's former assistant, Mike Pingel, shared how Fawcett had done all she could to beat cancer. She tried German experimental treatments and educated others about the disease as she felt the need to share her journey so she could help others.

In 1984, the celebrity was interviewed by Walters about her relationship with her boyfriend. At the time, the star was pregnant with his son, Redmond O'Neal, and she said she hadn't accepted Ryan's many proposals because he was "too bossy."

When the actress was buried, her boyfriend was one of the pallbearers at the Los Angeles Roman Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. He also gave a reading during Fawcett's service, loved her long after she passed, and once said:

Ryan Brings Roses in Farrah's Honor Each Year

In 2019, ten years after Fawcett's death, Ryan, then 78, remembered her confessing, "There was never a day I didn't love her." The star fell in love with her longtime boyfriend in 1979 while married to Lee Majors.

"The Six Million Dollar Man" actor had asked Ryan to check on Fawcett while he was away shooting, and the rest was history. Redmond was born in 1985, before his parents announced their separation in 1997, saying they'd co-parent him.

However, after Ryan was diagnosed with leukemia (which later went into remission), the couple reconciled, and the actress cared for him. The star's boyfriend was known for being volatile, and their relationship wasn't perfect.

However, Sylvia Dorsey, a friend of Fawcett's, described Ryan as the actress' "love of her life." Dorsey thought the celebrity wasn't happy without her boyfriend as they fought but loved each other passionately, adding:

"It was never boring. They were electric together."

While there was sadness during Fawcett's final days, there were moments when Ryan made her laugh as he always could. According to Mela Murphy, the star's friend at Los Angeles' St. John's Medical Center, he slept by her side in a cot.

Murphy said the night before the celebrity's death, Ryan was talking about how he first met his girlfriend. That was how he told her how much he loved her, and Fawcett looked over at Murphy, rolled her eyes, and smiled.

Ryan proposed a few weeks before her death again and never left her side during the last months. Stewart thought the couple would've married if Fawcett had lived, but it was unrealistic since it was weeks before her death.

In 2017, he [Ryan O'Neal] uploaded a fun image where he sat between his two sons, showing how he loved spending time with them.

The friend said the pair had a deep love and bond, and she wanted Ryan next to her no matter the challenges. Ryan held her hand as she passed, with Smith recalling how he was "the love of her life," and vice versa, adding:

"It was always Ryan. The father of your child. Connected forever."

On February 14, 2023, 14 years after Fawcett's death, Ryan honored his late love by placing a rose on her Hollywood Walk star and called her "My forever Valentine." In 2021, he made the same tribute that he undertook yearly.
