When they were shooting an episode, Wolfe was surprised at the freedom they had on-screen. He recalled his reaction to that saying:

“The first time our characters hold hands in public, I stopped and asked the writer, ‘Just to check, we're in a new part of the map that Wylan hasn't visited before, and he's just had his hand held by Jesper. Would I then look around to make sure that’s okay before they carry on walking?’"

It can be argued that what makes Wolfe's excellent portrayal of a queer character is that he lives as a member of the LGBTQ+ community in real life. That is why he understands the calls for straight actors not being cast for queer roles.

While Wolfe keeps it short with his messages to his alleged partner, Clarke likes to be more elaborate. On December 17, 2021, he shared photos of the two with the caption, "Happy birthday to the mythical, magical woodland creature that is Mr. Jack Wolfe! You're a wonder and I'm a very lucky boy."
