Tracy was born in October 1963 to Ricky Nelson and Kristin Harmon and was the eldest of five siblings. Tracy was born into a famous family, with her maternal and paternal grandparents and her parents being famous.

While her family was all in the spotlight, her upbringing was difficult, and she faced severe struggles. However, she did find herself being drawn to performing like her family.

Tracy's parents were married for many years, but their marriage was not happy. Ricky and Harmon accused one another of having affairs and substance abuse issues. Tracy felt safer at her father's house as a teenager because she frequently fought with her mother.

How Did Tracy's Dream About Her Father Save Her Life?

In December 1987, Tracy found out that she had a malignant tumor. She was also diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, which she believed came from the stress around her father's death and a personal battle she was fighting.

Her mother and uncle, Mark Harmon, were in a custody battle over her younger brother then, which she thought also contributed to her being so ill. At the same time, her husband's father had been diagnosed with incurable throat cancer.

She underwent many treatments, including a seven-hour surgery and chemotherapy, that caused her to lose weight. Within six months, Tracy's cancer diagnosis went into remission.

Although she was unwell, she continued working throughout her treatments, and despite her fears of being sterile after the grueling treatments she had to face, she gave birth to a child in 1992.

However, none of that would have been possible without her father. He strangely saved her life. Tracy shared:

"My father called me on the phone and said, 'I know you miss me, but it's not time for you to die. You have to go see a doctor.'"

While her father helped her overcome the most difficult times of her diagnosis, Tracy faced many issues with people speculating about her father's death. Many believed Ricky had caused the crash by freebasing cocaine.

Eventually, the plane's faulty system was found to be the cause of the crash, but the family could not shake the substance abuse rumors. The family feud regarding her brother also petered out eventually, and nowadays Tracy is close to her uncle.

The actress even mentioned that she would like her uncle to teach her how to swim as he guided her when she was younger. Her relationship with her mother has not improved.
