In December 1987, Tracy found out that she had a malignant tumor. She was also diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, which she believed came from the stress around her father's death and a personal battle she was fighting.

Her mother and uncle, Mark Harmon, were in a custody battle over her younger brother then, which she thought also contributed to her being so ill. At the same time, her husband's father had been diagnosed with incurable throat cancer.

She underwent many treatments, including a seven-hour surgery and chemotherapy, that caused her to lose weight. Within six months, Tracy's cancer diagnosis went into remission.

Although she was unwell, she continued working throughout her treatments, and despite her fears of being sterile after the grueling treatments she had to face, she gave birth to a child in 1992.

However, none of that would have been possible without her father. He strangely saved her life. Tracy shared:

"My father called me on the phone and said, 'I know you miss me, but it's not time for you to die. You have to go see a doctor.'"

While her father helped her overcome the most difficult times of her diagnosis, Tracy faced many issues with people speculating about her father's death. Many believed Ricky had caused the crash by freebasing cocaine.

Eventually, the plane's faulty system was found to be the cause of the crash, but the family could not shake the substance abuse rumors. The family feud regarding her brother also petered out eventually, and nowadays Tracy is close to her uncle.
