In April 2023, Cyndi Lauper was back on the scene and was spotted on tour with Rod Stewart. After years of struggling with a skin condition, the artist finally appeared to be doing great, but she always had one particular person supporting her.

Her husband of 32 years in 2023, David Thornton, a famous actor, stood by her side through thick and thin. The songstress' sighting with Stewart caused a massive stir on social media, with some people criticizing the pair.

The photo was taken shortly after Stewart, then 78, rescheduled one of their concerts because of a "viral infection." The then 69-year-old musician described the British singer as a "true friend and supporter" throughout her career.

The "Time After Time" musician confessed they'd shared unforgettable moments on and off the stage while performing at Madison Square Garden to their tour dates in New Zealand and Australia. This was the pair's third tour and Lauper's first one since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Looking good at her age didn't come naturally for Lauper because she once struggled with a condition that threatened her looks. However, the star looked better over a decade after overcoming the disease.

What Happened to Cyndi's Skin 12 Years Ago?

In July 2015, Lauper gave an interview where she opened up about her years-long battle with a debilitating skin condition. The "True Colors" singer finally broke her silence and revealed that she had psoriasis.

The condition caused cells to build up on the skin through dry and itchy patches. The disease was so bad for the musician that she battled a scaly rash, causing her to be bedridden and depressed.

The year she opened up about her diagnosis, the star joined the National Psoriasis Foundation in an informative campaign where she helped others cope with the disease. The campaign was a joint effort with Novartis, with Lauper recalling this about her condition:

"It was so bad, I felt like the Elephant Man."

The star urged others not to live in pain or suffer in silence as the condition wasn't just a rash but a disease. In 2010, it started for the musician as an irritation on her scalp, and she initially thought it was due to a lousy bleaching job.

However, she was diagnosed with psoriasis and given a special shampoo, but that was just the beginning. The rash flared up two years later and turned "into something scary," where her whole body was covered in scaly skin.

The condition started going up her neck, and she felt "swallowed by it" before using all the natural cures she could find. At times, the vocalist was so weak she couldn't leave her bed, and she felt like a mad scientist mixing things to alleviate herself.

The celebrity's immune system went out of wack, and her strength was removed. Her skin was so inflamed that she couldn't regulate cold or heat, and she had chills all the time and initially tried covering it up.

Lauper started wearing clothes with higher necks, like turtle necks, and added long sleeves, making her look like a nun and unattractive. The star had enjoyed wearing tight clothing before and refused to be left without options.

When she used makeup, her skin became "bumpy," and she applied self-tanner, trying to "look normal." The singer's flaking skin was covered with stage costumes that had mesh netting, but the minute she took them off, she was reminded of the unsettling truth.

Those who worked with her empathized with how her condition looked hurt. In 2017 she appeared in a BUILD Series Lauper admitted that she was very sick from 2010 until 2015, but despite looking ridiculous with her concoctions, her husband, David Thornton, had a good sense of humor and was there for her.

In 1991, Lauper met David on the set of the movie "Off and Running," but it was a low point in the star's life. The singer said she was having a "terrible time" and had separated from her manager and boyfriend of six and a half years, Dave Wolff.

After vacating the place she'd shared with Wolff, the musician was living in a hotel room. The star became depressed and got into an unhealthy situation with a man who "wasn't particularly good-looking," and after that concluded, she felt dull, ugly, and a mess.

The actress' [Cyndi Lauper] husband [David Thornton] avoided getting angry because he really blew up when he did.

Lauper thought her musical career was done and took the role in "Off and Running" as a vacation from herself and to forget who she was before meeting David. Their relationship remained professional while they worked together, but after filming was done, they married.

Two weeks after they'd started dating, David discussed marriage with the vocalist, and after spending a month alone in Cape Cop, the pair couldn't stand each other and decided to marry! In November 1991, they tied the knot and have been together since.

David, a famous actor, proposed with an 1840s Hindu princess's crystal, an antique Roman ring with the stamp of Eros, and an English regard ring, and Lauper chose the last item. The songstress described her husband as wildly creative and her best friend.

All she wanted was to share her whole life with him, and they had an honest conversation months after marrying. The artist didn't like that her husband disliked television and liked debating and talking, but they were learning about each other.

David said he loved how expressive his wife was as it made him more comfortable about being "emotionally demonstrative." He also shared how temperamental and volatile she was, which he wasn't so pleased with.

The actress' husband avoided getting angry because he really blew up when he did. Luckily, they learned to cool off and keep their marriage thriving, and their first child, Declyn "Dex" Thornton, was born in 1997.
