Music legend John Legend and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, are new parents again after welcoming baby Esti in January. The journey to getting here was tough as the Legends suffered immense loss, for which people blamed Teigen. In light of the new celebration, Legend has scaled down on work and is in the U.K. for a laid-back and relaxed time with his family.

"Made to Love" singer John Legend and his wife Chrissy Teigen have been married for a decade, but unlike many romantic stories that involve pursuing a love interest for a while, the star and his beau connected on the first night.

Opening up about how she met the love of her life, Teigen, a model and TV personality, disclosed that they met in 2006 during the shooting of Legend's music video for his song "Stereo."

They jumped right in and spent their first night together. However, they did not immediately hit it off as a couple and spent some time apart after that first night. Teigen said she did not want to lock Legend down like that early on.

"I closed the deal the first night," she confessed before saying how she let him be for a while after that. She played it cool, and because she is not traditional, she never once thought that marriage was an option:

The situation was not any different for the "Love Me Now" singer. In an interview with Los Angeles Confidential in 2015, he confessed that he did not consider any long-term involvement on day one. He needed to let his feelings for Teigen grow.

When they finally committed to each other, there was no turning back. They got engaged in December 2011 in Maldives and married in Lake Como, Italy. The ceremony was attended by 125 guests, including Hollywood's A-listers like Kanye West, Quincy Jones, Brooklyn Decker, and Stevie Wonder, who performed "Ribbons in the Sky."

The bride went all out with three wedding gowns. The first was an ivory princess gown with a strapless open back and tulle skirt, making the event seem like a real-time fairy tale.

She then switched to a mermaid gown with a micro-pleated bodice and a sheared organza full skirt for the reception. The third was a crimson mermaid gown for the after-party.

Legend also serenaded his bride with his hit song "All I Am," and everyone else enjoyed a wonderful time. A source told People:

"Everyone was in tears. It was so beautiful."

E! News would, however, learn that the lovebirds were already married in a courthouse before their Italy wedding. Though news of their wedding broke out first, Teigen later revealed they married in a New York Courthouse on September 10, four days before their Italian wedding, with Irina Shayk serving as their witness.

She disclosed that she and her singer husband had not initially realized that their wedding in Italy would only be recognized if they had a ceremony in New York.

Two years later, the lovebirds announced they were expecting their first child. In a post dated December 2015, Teigen revealed they had been trying for a child for a while and it had not been easy. The post said in part:

"But we keep trying because we can't wait to bring our first child into the world and grow our family."

She pointed out how excited they finally were that they were pregnant and thanked everyone for their good wishes.

In April 2016, the two became first-time parents after welcoming their daughter Luna Simone Stephens. Teigen announced on her Instagram that their baby weighed six pounds. A couple of days later, the model posted the first photo of their newborn, revealing her nickname was Lulu.

Having experienced a tough time getting pregnant with their first baby, Teigen revealed the pregnancy was possible due to in vitro fertilization (IVF). Despite the challenges, she said they would try for a second baby, and this time, they wanted it to be a boy.

They let their plans known during their respective red-carpet events. Teigen was in Los Angeles receiving her Woman of the Year award when she shared that they were still trying for baby number two and that her dream was to be pregnant for the rest of her fertile life.

Legend, who was in New York for the NAACP LDF National Equal Justice Award, resonated with Teigen's sentiments, saying they wanted more babies and were hopeful their second one was coming in the near future. "We're working on it," he confirmed.

In November 2017, Teigen revealed she was pregnant with their second child. The lovebirds welcomed their baby, Miles Theodore Stephens, on May 16, 2018, with Teigen announcing the news a few days later in an Instagram post captioned:

"Hello, world! This is Miles Theodore Stephens!"

Despite a busy schedule, Legend became a hands-on dad to his two children, doing diaper changes and getting involved in all the nitty-gritty of parenting.

While he acknowledged that his family could live and travel easily due to the privileges they have that many don't, he also noted that parenting was an equalizer and daddy diaper duties were a real thing.

In true Legend fashion, the singer would sing to his babies, and together with his wife, they learned how to parent. They figured out the responsibilities they wanted to share and enjoyed raising their two babies. Legend thought it was fascinating watching his kids' minds develop and learn to do simple tasks.

The Loss of Their Son and Overcoming Grief

For the next several years after welcoming their baby boy Miles, the couple kept trying for another, and in 2020, they announced that they were pregnant with their third baby.

Sadly, their joy was cut short when they lost the baby in utero. In a heartbreaking post dated October 1, 2020, Teigen wrote about the pain of the loss, describing it as a grief neither of them had ever felt.

She explained that they had been unable to give their baby the needed fluids despite having many blood transfusions. "It just wasn't enough." she wrote.

She also said it was never a habit for them to name their babies before birth and always waited until right before leaving the hospital. However, with their third, they began calling him Jack while in the belly. For some reason, he was different. She said:

"So he will always be Jack to us."

She said Jack had worked hard to be part of their family and will always be. She also disclosed that after a few nights at the hospital, she had made peace with what was coming, and when the doctor told them what was happening, she knew it was time to say goodbye.

In 2021, Teigen came clean about the loss, admitting it was not a stillbirth or a miscarriage, but a medical abortion, usually done in pregnancies with complications or birth defects.

Opening up to the public about her loss only shed light on how many people suffer the same pain in silence. Unfortunately, it also brought out negativity and criticism from social media users.

When fans realized that the loss of their baby resulted from a medical abortion and not a miscarriage, many started blaming Teigen for getting rid of her baby.

Luckily, her husband stood by her side through the pain and seconded her decision to post the truth about their loss. Speaking on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, he revealed that Teigen had involved her fans in her pregnancy journey, sharing all the details from the high moments to the low ones.

She shared with them from when her pregnancy started becoming complicated to when the doctors put her on bed rest. It did not make any sense not to share the outcome because, according to Legend, how then would they explain the disappearance of the pregnancy?

Nevertheless, he also shed light on how difficult that period of their lives was. He said that, while he did not carry the pregnancy, he felt a strong sense of grief and powerlessness.

As the man of the house, whose role was to help and protect his family, the "Green Light" singer hated that he could not do anything to help solve the problems that glared at them. It was heartbreaking, and while they eventually got through the pain, it was a profound challenge.

Addressing his wife on Twitter, he expressed his awe at what an excellent gift it was to bring life to this world and praised her for showing so much strength throughout their most challenging moments.

He also felt that the only way they would get through their pain was by sticking it out together, holding each other's hand through every up and down, just as they had promised each other on their wedding day: "Our love will remain. We will never break," he said.

Thanks to their resilience, strength, and love, they got through the toughest period of their lives, and the universe soon rewarded them.

A Reason to Celebrate — Welcoming Baby Esti

The past couple of years have been tough on the Legends, but they now have reason to celebrate. They are new parents again!

In August 2022, Teigen announced her pregnancy, noting that joy had filled their hearts and home again despite the blur of emotions that had been the last few years. She posted the fantastic news on her Instagram alongside selfies of her protruding belly.

Carrying another pregnancy after losing their last baby was not without its fair share of fear and doubt. Every time she went to a doctor's appointment, she would be a bundle of nerves and would only breathe a sigh of relief when she heard her baby's heartbeat.

And while she made numerous attempts to announce the thrilling news, she was still afraid of any eventualities, yet she remained hopeful.

Appearing on Today to discuss the two acts of his new album "Legend," the singer said that despite being cautiously optimistic, they were incredibly excited he was at the prospect of having a new baby.

He also revealed on Audacy's "Check In" podcast that they were not nearly done growing their family, and he could see them having four kids. The "Conversations In The Dark" singer said he envisioned growing old with Teigen and inviting their kids over every Sunday for family dinner.

Finally, on January 13, 2023, the Legends' joy became complete when they welcomed a new baby, daughter Esti Maxine Stephens.

Legend shared the news at a private concert only hours after his daughter arrived, saying it was a blessed day. On the other hand, Teigen announced the news on Instagram alongside a sweet photo of Luna and Miles gushing over their new baby sister:

"She's here! Esti Maxine Stephens - the house is bustling, and our family could not be happier."

"Daddy sheds nightly tears of joy seeing Luna and Miles so full of love," the Sports Illustrated model continued, adding that their household was in bliss over the new addition.

Besides being cute, the name Esti is also incredibly sentimental to Teigen and Legend. During a sit-down with Kelly Clarkson, Teigen disclosed that she came up with the name during their vacation in Italy, where they married.

She says she kept looking up and seeing the name Este, and after playing around with it, they decided the variation of the name Esti is what they would name their daughter.

Long after they had welcomed their daughter and named her Esti, Legend made a mind-blowing discovery that his great-grandmother was also named Esti, a name Teigen believes could be a variation on Esther.

Following the birth of his daughter, the "On Time" singer has scaled down on work and is spending plenty of time with his family. As April rolled in, the family of five took a cute photo right before boarding a commercial plane to the U.K., where the singer will perform a series of shows.
