Brittany Jacques was absolutely clueless about what the future had in store for her. But there was one thing she was all too familiar with—a dwindling sense of self-confidence, and the constant struggle often took its toll on her.

The Ontario resident stated that intimacy had nothing to do with someone's size or physical appearance.

There was a time when Jacques felt happy in a relationship, not knowing how drastically things would change. Her struggle with self-confidence began when her former partners pressured her to lose weight, which initially didn't make much sense to her.

Jacques, who weighed 252 lbs, was reportedly given an ultimatum by nearly everyone she dated—diet and stay in the relationship or keep the extra pounds and accept being dumped. The same physique which had once appealed to her former partners became her biggest obstacle.

In addition to a lack of confidence, Jacques had difficulty giving up on every relationship simply because of her weight. Since she was made to believe she was part of the problem, the young woman started exercising in hopes of altering her size.

After some time, it dawned upon her that she would lose her sense of self-love if she continued to change herself to fit somebody else's perception of beauty. As she found herself second-guessing everything and trying to find her place in the world, she feared loneliness.

Jacques wondered if she would ever find someone who would love and accept her just as she was. She had lost all hope of finding her Mr. Right until her fateful meeting with a man who turned her gloomy days into happier and brighter ones.

Meeting a Man Half Her Size

Jacques was on the verge of closing her heart to love when she crossed paths with Matt Montgomery. They met virtually on Facebook in August 2020 and felt an instant connection. As they kept in touch, they knew they had something special and an undeniable chemistry.

Although it was love at first sight for the couple, people around them couldn't help but pinpoint their stark differences. Jacques was a plus-size woman, while Montgomery had a lean and slim physique.

Paying no attention to the naysayers, the pair, who had both given up on love for their own reasons, decided to listen to their hearts. As time passed, Jacques, a care worker, and Montgomery, a personal trainer, became even more certain they were meant to be together.

After waving goodbye to singlehood and getting engaged to her 140-lb fiancé, Jacques faced even more criticism. She and Montogomery received backlash from the online community, with many reportedly suggesting they should end their relationship.

When the couple started documenting their love life online, a slew of negative comments poured in. "People comment on Instagram and suggest that I'm not big enough or man enough for her," recalled Montgomery. But that wasn't all.

Why Did Montgomery Start Dating Jacques?

Meanwhile, Montgomery expressed his dismay at being deemed unsuitable for Jacques just because of their size difference, with no importance given to how much he loved her. He recounted dating skinny girls who weren't pleased with themselves and constantly needed to change things.

The fitness trainer said he felt down being around his former partners and didn't think he could be in a happy relationship. But everything fell perfectly into place when he met Jacques, who was much more confident in her own body and didn't wish to change anything about herself.

Montgomery said he fell in love with Jacques' self-image and body-positive perspective, so instead of compelling her to diet or lose weight, he prioritized her happiness.

After a series of failed experiences with skinny girls, Montgomery knew Jacques was "the one" for him. In an Instagram post from September 2020, the Canadian man wrote a heart-melting birthday post for his lady love. A part of the caption read:

"You are WORTHY, You are DESERVING of infinite love every single day and more! The way I look at you and feel for you and [the] way you look and feel for me is how I know that we are meant to be. I Love You!"
