Rachel McAdams unapologetically showcased her natural look for her Bustle feature. While the actress feels that shaving legs shouldn't be a lifelong commitment, she showed a similar sentiment regarding her underarms in the spread.

"I love that juxtaposition of beauty, glam, fantasy, and then truth," Rachel McAdams told Bustle in the article that came out on April 18, 2023. She requested that the publication make edits to the photos as "minimally as possible," thus keeping her underarms intact.

The Canadian actress is promoting the film adaptation of "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret" based on Judy Blume's YA classic, in which she plays Abby Ryder Fortson's "hippie artist mom."

McAdams is not shy to make a statement in a photo shoot but has clear boundaries. For Girls. Girls. Girls. magazine, she posed in a plaid Versace jacket, bondage-style bra, and breast pumps a few years ago.

McAdams told ET that she would tell her younger self that "It's gonna get easier."

She walked off the set of a Vanity Fair shoot in 2006 with Scarlett Johansson and Keira Knightley, which was shot by Annie Leibovitz, upon learning that the other two actresses agreed to pose nude and she wasn't willing to.

With "Are You There God?" being a coming-of-age story, Bustle asked McAdams to advise her younger self on topics important to an 11-year-old in a video.

She reiterated her mother's advice on shaving, even though she rolled her eyes at the time, that it is a lifetime commitment. The 44-year-old star touted the importance of shaving cream but went back on one point:

"If you want to stop shaving again someday, that is okay too."

Fielding the same line of questioning at a screening of the film in the author's hometown, Key West, Florida, McAdams told ET that she would tell her younger self that "It's gonna get easier," adding:

"It gets really fun the older you get. I think it gets easier. I don't know that I'd want to go back."

The "Mean Girls" actress has two children with her partner Jamie Linden, a screenwriter. Not long after walking off the Leibovitz shoot for Variety in 2006, she moved back to her native Canada to recentre herself.

That break from Hollywood stretched into two years and became a pattern for Rachel McAdams. Taking a step back from acting leaves her feeling "empowered" and that she is "taking back some control."
