Kim Petras made history at the Grammy Awards this year as a transgender singer. Although she seems single, she once spoke candidly about meeting her first boyfriend.

Kim Petras is a Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter who first released her music under BunHead Records as an independent artist between 2016 and 2020. In 2021, she signed with Amigo and Republic Records.

Born on August 27, 1992, in Cologne, Germany, Petras comes from a family with a performing arts background. Her mother is a choreographer and an artist, and her older sister is also a singer. But her father is an architect.

Petras was born male, and according to her parents, she knew she was born "in the wrong body" when she was only two years old. At age 13, she appeared on a current affairs show in her native country to discuss her medical gender transition.

At age 14, Petras appeared on a talk show to get permission for early sex reassignment surgery once she turned 16. Her efforts garnered international attention, and she was thrust into the spotlight in 2006, making her the "world's youngest transsexual."

Petras was not the only one going through a transition phase at that age. Actor Warren Beatty's child, Kathlyn—born Stephen—also went through the same process from age 14.

In addition, Kim Petras also cemented her name in the history books by becoming the first transgender woman to win Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the Grammy Awards in February 2023.

The "Unholy" hitmaker gave an emotional speech by thanking pop music star and LGBTQ+ advocate Madonna and paid tribute to the late artist SOPHIE.

Petras expressed gratitude to transgender artists who came before her for paving the way. She remembered her dear friend SOPHIE who had told her two years before her death that she would bag a Grammy Award.

Petras also thanked Madonna for rallying behind the LGBTQ + community and gave a shoutout to her beloved mother, who, too, believed her when she told her that she was a girl at a young age.

Petras – born Tim – once made a poignant statement regarding her transition at the beginning of her career. She said she was aware that people would always talk about her transition journey, which is something she cannot hide from, adding:

"But I hope that one day I might be better known for something else like my music."

Kim Petras Once Said Music Was Her Boyfriend

Kim Petras, who started recording music as a teenager, opened up more about her career and love life during an interview in October 2019.

Her song "Broken" was inspired by a breakup, and when asked whether she had time to date, the award-winning singer revealed she did not.

Petras barely even has time for her pals, who are like family to her, and she adores them. But at least she tries to make time for them whenever she can.

The pop star revealed she had been working hard to get to a point where she was preoccupied with her career. At the time, she said she was content with her life and was not looking to date anyone, adding:

"[..] Music is like my boyfriend."

Kim Petras Is Extremely Private About Her Love Life

Kim Petras happens to be private about her love life. Judging by her social media uploads on her Instagram page – followed by 1 million people – she mostly posts about her work projects and nothing personal.

On her bio, the 30-year-old is currently promoting her new song "Alone," featuring award-winning singer and rapper Nicki Minaj.

However, almost ten years ago, Petras tweeted on Twitter about meeting her first boyfriend and mentioned how awkward it was for her.

In an August 2013 post, she wrote: "Meeting your boyfriend is just so weird. I was like, 'Why didn't I put on the extra layer of mascara today.'"
