Randall Park Is Married - Get To Know His Talented Wife Jae Suh Park
Randall's wife is Jae Suh Park, a highly accomplished Korean actress known for her roles in hit TV series like "Never Have I Ever" and "Doogie Kamealoha, M.D." in which she starred with Peyton Elizabeth Lee and Milo Manheim.
Jae's journey to Hollywood was difficult, especially as an Asian American. She and her family relocated to the United States when she was six years old, and she grew up in Lodi, California.
She struggled to fit in and often felt like an outsider. Being miles away from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, the place where she had always aspired to be, made her journey even more challenging.
Despite harboring a deep passion for acting, Jae initially believed pursuing it as a career was impossible. Her family's traditional path was the expected route, but her heart has been set on the stage.
Despite her parents' initial disapproval, who believed that acting was not a noble job but a fleeting interest, Jae did not let it deter her.
Over time, Jae gained confidence and moved to Los Angeles. There, she found it relatively easy to secure representation as an Asian-American actor, but few opportunities were available.
Despite the challenges, Jae remains passionate about her craft. Her journey to success is made even easier with the unwavering support of her husband, who has been there for her every step of the way.
Randall Park Was Too Nervous to Introduce Himself to Jae Suh Park When He First Met Her
Randall and Jae are both professional actors who also create their content. They are regulars at Channel 101 and have been a part of various Asian-American theater groups.
Since the Asian-American acting community in Los Angeles is relatively small, Randall and Jae were already familiar with each other before meeting. They first met at a fundraiser for a nonprofit theater in 2007.
Randall had contributed a hand-drawn cartoon of an armless squirrel to the fundraiser event, and he noticed Jae from across the room. However, he didn't dare to introduce himself. A few days later, they ran into each other at an audition.
Jae recalled her opening line and asked Randall how much he had sold the painting for, referring to the cartoon he had donated at the fundraiser. Randall confessed that his friend bought it for $20 since no one else bid on it.
They got to know each other better while waiting for their turn to audition. But just as Randall was about to ask for her number, Jae was called in for her audition, leaving him disappointed. However, fate had other plans.
They ran into each other again at another audition a few days later. This time, they were both auditioning for the same role in a commercial. He invited her to his upcoming birthday party at his Mar Vista apartment.
At the party, Randall and Jae had trouble finding a moment alone to talk. Eventually, Randall asked Jae out after she called to let him know she had gotten home safely.
The pair eventually fell in love after two weeks of dating, and a year later, Randall proposed to Jae. They got married on August 28, 2008.
Randall believes dating another actor has been a positive experience for him, despite the common advice against it. He thinks having someone who understands his work and can provide emotional support is beneficial.
The couple enjoys collaborating on comedy projects and appreciates their mutual understanding. However, they note that they have had fewer opportunities to work together lately. Jae said:
"For us, our priority is our marriage and our family. I feel like that it's it. Our careers are separate and different entities. We love working together, doing something together, but that's what's been working for us."
Jae always takes advantage of every opportunity to express her love for Randall on social media on their wedding anniversary. On Instagram, she described him as "cute," "a class act," and her "best dance partner ever."
Randall Park and Jae Suh Park Have a Daughter Ruby Louise Park Who Has Autism
Randall and Jae are the proud parents of their only daughter, Ruby, who was born with an autism spectrum disorder. However, despite her condition, the little girl has already made a name for herself in the entertainment industry.
Ruby played a crime-fighting baby in the comedy series "Baby Mentalist," which her dad wrote and produced. She also starred in the "Fishbowls Are Definitely My Thing" series.
The couple prioritizes Ruby's privacy by sharing very few photos of her, such as those taken on Father's Day in 2020 and 2022 or during a family vacation.
They also avoid public events to provide her with a normal childhood but make exceptions for inclusive play spaces. Jae explained that their daughter loves doing many of the same things as other kids but in her own unique way.
Ruby enjoys various activities, such as swinging, bouncing on trampolines, and visiting Disneyland. She also enjoys creative hobbies and watching YouTube on her iPad.
Despite the increasing representation of people with disabilities in the media, stigmas surrounding sensory needs and disabilities continue to exist.
Jae shared that when her parents first learned of her daughter's autism diagnosis, they referred to a character on a TV show who was portrayed as a successful doctor with a disability.
She stressed that while there is progress, much work remains to be done to fight these stigmas. Like Jae, actor John Travolta also dealt with the challenges involving his late autistic son Jett, who died in 2009.
