Williams was born without a jaw and it has made him want to show others that they deserve more out of life rather than being bullied for being different.
The 41-year-old man's condition, called otofacial syndrome, resulted from a mutated gene, rendering him unable to speak or chew. He uses sign language to communicate and a feeding tube to nourish his body.
Williams admitted he found himself feeling "worthless," until he began to believe in himself and his ability to find love. When he fell in love with his wife, it brought him newfound confidence.
Although Williams acknowledges he is different from others, he wants people to treat him like any other human being. He mused:
"I understand that I am different and that some people will think I am ugly and not accept me, but I am still a person who has a heart, feelings, and a brain. I should be treated with respect, just as anyone else should be."
Williams would prefer if, instead of staring and pointing at him, people would ask him questions about his condition. He mentioned that one man even stopped his car and turned around so that he could see him again.
He says it gets annoying when people stop and stare at him. He also said he had to find a way to become independent because everyone wanted to protect him from the world when he was young.
Williams does not want to be limited by his condition. His birth mother was shocked by it, and he was eventually put up for adoption.
He had a bone and skin graft and a jaw reconstruction, but his body rejected it. He then met his adoptive family and said:
"Growing up was hard, and being born like this has caused me many problems, but I have tried not to let it affect me."
How Did Williams Meet His Wife and Why Was She Embarrassed At First?
When he was younger, Williams found dating challenging because he lacked self-esteem. He believed he would spend the rest of his days alone without finding love.
However, in 2019, he met Vania, who would later become his wife. They started as friends, but then they began to fall in love.
When Vania first saw Williams walk into the building where she worked, she didn't know what to do because she was curious about him but didn't want to ask him outright what happened to him.
She later learned about it after hearing him tell someone else about his condition. Williams said he had had many different responses to his condition; some would stare or run away out of fear.
However, others loved him dearly and didn't see his condition as a problem. Instead, they saw him for who he is. One of these people was Vania, who Williams says he fell for on the second day of seeing her.
Williams had been teaching Vania sign language, and when he walked past her workstation that day, she signed "Hi" to him. He said it made him feel good to know she was trying to communicate with him.
Vania and Williams were friends for a while before they became romantically involved. Vania said even when people questioned whether they were more than friends, she would say no because she was embarrassed and ashamed, having never dated someone with a disability.
Although she initially didn't want to admit her feelings for Williams, Vania eventually stopped seeing him for his condition and fell in love with who he was as a person. The couple uses a text-to-speech app to communicate, and Vania also knows the sign language alphabet.
When Vania's mom, Janice, first met Williams, she said she was surprised by his condition and wanted to know what happened. However, now she says:
"He's a remarkable man. He does things that, you know, normal men don't do. He's a hard worker for one; he's attentive to [Vania.] He cares about her, he loves her, and she loves him."
Despite Williams and others thinking he would never be married, the couple eventually tied the knot in 2020. While they gained the support of both Vania's parents and Williams' friends and family, their relationship was not always well-received. In fact, many people don't understand why they're together.
Why Did the Couple Get Slammed?
Many people have shared their feelings about Vania and Williams' relationship. Williams revealed that people made assumptions about them, saying: "She can't kiss him" or "She must be cheating on him."
Others even thought the pair might be faking their marriage for attention. Vania admitted that when they are out together, they get the stares Williams has had all his life.
Although people stop and stare at them, nobody ever says anything to them. However, Williams wishes people would ask him or Vania outright instead of staring at them blankly.
Through everything they have gone through, Vania and Williams have become a formidable couple whose differences have only brought them closer together. What a remarkable love story!
There are many people who were born different but have made the best of their lives, like this man, who also had no jaw but achieved success in his career.
