In the most unimaginable and heart-shattering turn of events, a family lost their two kids in less than a year's time while they were reportedly left in their grandmother's care. Crippled by irreparable loss and sheer trauma, the children's mom struggled to forgive her mother.

The saddest part about tragedy is that it almost always comes uninvited, turning our seemingly happy worlds topsy-turvy. No parent can bear the thought of seeing their kids in harm's way and would do anything to ensure their safety and well-being.

Often, with children being a handful, many parents rely on their family and friends for support. But imagine the soul-crushing grief and heartbreak a couple experienced when deprived of parental bliss following two unfortunate incidents. Here's the complete story.

Tracey Nix, from Wauchula, Florida, sat down one day, practicing her piano, blissfully unaware of what was unfolding in her surroundings. In the back seat of her Lexus SUV lay an infant girl, who was none other than her own granddaughter.

During the investigation into Ezra's death, Kaila had to make a difficult choice.

And while Tracey was busy with her music lesson, her little granddaughter was reportedly taking her last breaths in her vehicle's back seat. But how could that be possible?

Per Hardee County Sheriff's Office, Tracey confessed to a detective that she had no idea her granddaughter was still in the car. The 65-year-old woman was said to have driven back home after having lunch with her friends on November 22, 2022.

But once she reached her Florida home, Tracey said she forgot she had left her granddaughter in the car. Seven-month-old Uriel Schock's mother, Kaila Schock-Nix, had asked her mom to babysit that day so she could go for a hair-do. But what happened next was something she had never seen coming.

In her complete statement to the detective, Tracey admitted that she only realized she had forgotten Uriel after one of her grandsons arrived. The infant girl, who reportedly spent all afternoon in the SUV, was eventually rescued, and Tracey's husband, Nun Ney Nix, tried to resuscitate her.

According to the local weather report, Wauchula's temperatures rose as high as 90 degrees that day. Meanwhile, Tracey's car stood in her garage with all the windows rolled up. That day became a painful memory for Kaila and Drew Schock, who lost their beloved daughter.

With a pretrial hearing scheduled for March 28, Uriel's grandma, Tracey, was reportedly charged with aggravated manslaughter. But nothing could offer consolation or solace to the devastated parents, who struggled to deal with their gut-wrenching loss.

A heartbroken Drew recalled the nerve-wracking moment he identified his little girl and stood frozen in the hospital's parking lot. He said he failed to comprehend how something so sudden and tragic could happen to him twice in one lifetime.

As a mother, Kaila shuddered while picturing her sweet girl's final moments. The Schocks had endured a lot in less than a year—they experienced the deaths of their two precious kids while they were reportedly under their grandma's watch.

How Did the First Child Die as Grandma Babysat?

Before losing their little daughter, the Schocks lost their 16-month-old son, Ezra, while reportedly in his granny's care. Drew recounted receiving a phone call from Kaila's dad, who was said to have told him that something happened to his son.

The life-changing call came three days before Christmas in 2021. Little Ezra reportedly drowned in a nearby lake. Kaila said she left everything and immediately left for her parents' house, driving as fast as possible.

Kaila, who was six months pregnant then, drove 85 miles an hour in panic and missed the stop sign, suffering a head-on collision. Not knowing how she escaped the car crash, Kaila recalled leaving the wreckage and running straight to her parents' home without her shoes.

During the investigation into Ezra's death, Kaila had to make a difficult choice. Heeding her doctor's advice, she asked the authorities to withhold any evidence that could harm her or her baby.

Although Kaila loved her son wholeheartedly, she also had to think about the life growing inside her womb. It wasn't long before she and Drew became parents to their little princess, Uriel, whose name had Hebrew origins and means "God is my light."

Rightly so, Uriel arrived as a ray of sunshine in her parents' lives. The Schocks revealed they never saw the detailed reporting of how Ezra drowned the day Tracey reportedly dozed off. They had always dreamed of having three kids, not knowing they would have to bury two.

A devastated Kaila said she had difficulty accepting that her mom could do something so heart-shattering. The couple struggled to fathom how something so sudden could happen to them twice in less than 12 months.

After losing their son, the Schocks shared that they didn't trust Tracey and wouldn't let their four-year-old older kid stay at her place. Despite her fears and concerns, Kaila said she loved her mom and longed for her presence.

And so, despite her pain, Kaila gave her mom a second chance. "When I was told that Ezra's death was an accident, some sliver child part of me thought, 'Ok, good, I get to keep this mom. This grandmother. This person,'" she added.

Looking at things objectively and as a mother, Kaila said she wanted her mom to be jailed. But as a daughter, she felt uncomfortable with such thoughts for her mother.

What Happened to the Grandma & Her Daughter's Reaction

Tracey, a former school principal in Hardee County, appeared in court in April, where her husband, Nun, asked the judge to permit her to go to a mental health facility in St. Cloud for at least a month. He hoped doing so would help her speak up about the unfortunate event.

Calling his wife an intelligent person with an educational background in psychology, Nun said he wished her to get help and return to her normal state. He stated that her inability to open up about the incident meant she needed someone to help her navigate things.

After the hearing, a distraught Kaila reportedly hugged both her parents while uttering, "I miss you so much." The Schocks said they wanted their kids, Ezra and Uriel, to know they were loved and their parents were sorry.

"Because they were beautiful children, and they were taken by someone that we believed was worthy of trust," added the grief-stricken mom.
