Paula Abdul was a dancer before she ventured into music. Her rise to stardom also put the spotlight on her family and love life, which includes two marriages.

Paula Abdul began her career as a cheerleader for Los Angeles Lakers. She would later become the head of choreography for the Lakers Girls. Her dancing skills then opened more opportunities for her when she met The Jacksons.

She landed a job as an assistant dance director on The Jacksons' Victory tour and choreographed Janet Jackson's videos for the "Control" album. Her interactions with the Jacksons made her venture into pop music.

Abdul rose to fame in 1989 after her songs such as "Straight Up," "Cold Hearted," "Rush Rush," and "Opposites Attract" topped the Billboard chart. As a result, she achieved strong commercial success in the late '80s and early '90s, including winning a Grammy Award for best music video in 1991.

While fame opened doors for Adbul, it also exposed her love life; she was married twice, and all her marriages ended in divorce.

Does Paula Abdul Have Kids?

Abdul was married twice, but she doesn't have any children. After six months of dating, the "Rush Rush" singer tied the knot with actor and filmmaker Emilio Estevez in 1992. "The Mighty Ducks" actor went down on one knee and proposed to the singer when she visited him in Minneapolis.

Even though Abdul has not yet adopted children, she has unconditional love for her dogs.

The two would then exchange vows in a private ceremony at a Santa Monica courthouse. But their marriage didn't stand the test of time. After two years, the singer filed for a divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.

The singer opened up about the split in 1995 and said the divorce was heartbreaking. She wanted children, while Estevez didn't want to start another family; he already had two children from a previous relationship.

Paula Abdul Wanted Kids and Talked about Adoption as an Option

Two years after divorcing Estevez, Abdul found love again with Brad Beckerman, a sportswear manufacturer whom she met on a blind date. After dating for a while, Beckerman proposed to the singer with a customized six-carat ring in Hawaii.

The two would then exchange vows in 1996 with the hope of living happily ever after. But the marriage only lasted 17 months before Abdul filed for divorce in March 1998, citing irreconcilable differences. The two separated without having any children.

Nine years later, in 2007, while dating restauranteur J.T. Torregiani, the then-45-year-old spoke of her desire to have a child, ideally, within the 2 years that followed.

Abdul then hinted she had considered using modern medicine, if need be, to have kids. "With modern medicine, people are having kids in their 40s and even up until their late 40s. In their 50s, they're having their second child," she said. Abdul also noted that she would consider adopting if she couldn't have kids naturally.

Paula Abdul Is Yet to Adopt Kids but Adopted Dogs

Even though Abdul has not yet adopted children, she has unconditional love for her dogs. However, she experienced a massive loss in March 2020 when two dogs died the same week. The singer and TV personality took to her Instagram to mourn her two dogs in a heartbreaking post.

"This last week, I lost two of my precious angels- Tinkerbell and Charity. A big piece of my heart is missing," she wrote. In February 2020, Paula Abdul shared a cute short clip of her bonding with her dogs, including Nemo and Tinkerbell at the time, and captioned, "Just call me Dr. Doolittle ??"
