Teena Marie, born Mary Christine Brockert on March 5, 1956, in Santa Monica, California, grew up to become one of the most influential musicians of the 1980s. She was a constant success on the rhythm-and-blues charts with his songs such as "Lovegirl" and "Square Biz."

Alia Rose is now fully grown and has a child of her own who she loves and adores. However, she doesn't get much support from her blood relatives but has found comfort in the people her mother left her with. Although not a fully-fledged recording artist, she has been making music for some time.

Teena Marie's Daughter Alia Rose Was the One Who Found Her Mother Dead

In December 2010, as people were preparing for the festive season, the world received the sad news of the untimely death of R&B sensation Teena Marie. The artist, who also used the name, Lady T, given to her by her friend and collaborator, Rick James, is believed to have succumbed to natural causes at her home in California.

Unfortunately, the first person to see her in that state was her then-19-year-old daughter, Alia Rose. After numerous attempts to wake up her mother lying in bed, the terrified young lady called 911, seeking help. The chilling interaction with the emergency services operator was later released, showing her harrowing ordeal.

The teenager had saved her mother's life just a few weeks earlier. After Teena Marie passed on, her publicist, Lynn Jeter, revealed that a month earlier, Teena Marie had also suffered a seizure while she was watching a movie with Alia Rose, who immediately jumped into action and called the paramedics.

This was a challenging period for Alia Rose, and she was even more devastated when she lost her mother just a day after her 19th birthday. She said that during the first few months after her mother's passing, she pretended that Teena Marie was on tour. Although that initially helped, reality soon began catching up with her.

Alia Rose talked about when it finally sunk in that her mother had gone, and she had to start learning to be alone. That experience worsened an already difficult situation for her and led her to moments where she felt like she was going a little crazy.

The thing that helped her the most was her faith in God. Alia Rose said in an interview, "My mom always instilled a spiritual relationship, and that's what keeping me going right now." She added that she is one with God, and that has helped with the healing process. Other celebrities, such as Beyonce, also reached out to her.

Since her mom's passing, Alia Rose continues to celebrate her in many ways. In 2012, it was announced that Alia Rose was set to release the last songs recorded by her mother in her Pasadena home studio. The music was on an album, "Beautiful," which was a bittersweet project for the surviving daughter.

She has held interviews where she spoke highly of her mother, who seems to have been her guardian and a friend. In December 2020, she shared a heartfelt message about overcoming her mom's passing in an Instagram, which partly read:

"There were days I couldn't open the curtains and let light in. I'm so grateful those days of struggling with depression have lessened and gotten much brighter with time. I wanna thank my family, and my friends who are my family."

Teena Marie's Daughter Is Now a Mother Herself

Almost six years after her mother's tragic death, Alia Rose welcomed her son into the world. Pharaoh was born on November 29, 2016, and his mother has never felt more joy for anything else. In November 2021, she called him "the best friend a girl could ever ask for!"

Alia Rose is never shy to show her love and appreciation for her son. She celebrated his sixth birthday in 2022, called him "Earth angel," and proclaimed her love for her God-given gift.

It has not always been a smooth journey regarding family relationships for Alia Rose. She mentioned that after her mom's passing, she had problems with her family members as they began showing their true colors.

Therefore, some people she now calls family are not related to her by blood. They are the people that loved and cared for her in her greatest time of need. Her mother, who raised her as a single parent, had built a family for her out of people she wasn't naturally related to.

Not much is known about Alia Rose's father, Peter Butcher. He has a Twitter account where he generally reposts tweets about various topics, including sports and his daughter's music. According to his LinkedIn profile, he has worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for over 42 years.

Teena Marie's Daughter Is a Singer Too

Alia Rose has been on television on a couple of occasions. Her first appearance was in 2008 when she appeared on "Unsung," a biographical TV series focused on the 1970s to 1990s most talented yet forgotten Soul, R&B, and Gospel musicians.

In 2011, Alia Rose was featured in "Inside: Teena Marie," a documentary dedicated to her late mother. Singing sensation Faith Evans also contributed to its production. Fast forward to 2022, Alia was credited as an actress in a short film, "I'm Over It."

Even though Alia Rose has not quite reached the heights of her mother in pursuing her path in the showbiz industry, she has made considerable effort in that regard. For example, she worked hard on "Beautiful," making sure that the world heard her mother's voice on new songs again.

In May 2021, Alia Rose released a pop song called "When Stars Collide." In May 2023, she announced on Instagram that she would release an indie pop single, "Lightshow."
