Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Troye Sivan made his first big move at two when his family immigrated to Australia. The pop singer and actor has made a home in Los Angeles, California, which he used to share with his partner.

He began his career in the entertainment industry, singing with an Australian Idol winner at a charity event in 2006. He has since worked with icons like Nicole Kidman and John Cleese and has a part in HBO's buzzy new series, "The Idol."

Sivan has become famous for being a YouTuber, actor, model, and singer. He started his career in the mid-2000s and performed at "Telethon" in Australia in late 2006.

By mid-2007, at 12 years old, he had released his debut studio EP. Two years later, he made his movie debut in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," followed by his role as John 'Spud' Milton in "Spud."

As his career took off, he remained focused and signed a record label deal with Universal Music Australia in June 2013. However, before achieving global fame, he revealed his sexuality to his fans.

Troye Sivan Publicly Came out as Gay before He Became Famous

On August 7, 2013, the then-18-year-old decided it was time for his fans to know the truth about him. He shared a video titled "Coming Out" on his YouTube channel, which has been viewed nearly 9 million times since.

Sivan explained that he had come out to his family and close circle three years earlier on the day. He admitted that he was terrified to put out the video and could change everything for him but that it should not have to, so he made the video.

During an interview in 2022, he revealed, "I was about to sign my record deal, and I really wanted to be in charge of how I came out." The actor who wants to live his truth continued:

"I didn't want anyone to take that away from me. I wanted to start going out and going to gay clubs and meeting boys, and I wanted to write songs about love that were true and genuine."

Despite his coming out, Sivan "politely" does not want to take on the title of "gay icon," as he elaborated in a 2018 interview. He noted he is merely "one voice of so many that are missing."

Speaking from his privileged position, the singer reiterated that he does not represent the entire LGBTQ+ community because he is "extraordinarily lucky."

"I come from a middle-class white family in Australia, and all of my dreams have come true by 22," he said. The "You Know What I Need" hitmaker added:

Troye Sivan Was Linked to Several Famous Men, yet He Confirmed Only One Relationship

The performer who guest stars opposite The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp in the explicit series about a young singer in the music industry, "The Idol," has been very discrete with his personal life. However, Sivan's dating life once came to light due to a slip by a friend on social media.

Speculations about whether he and fellow YouTuber Connor Franta was secretly dating had already reached the point where fans had created a name for the couple, 'Tronnor,' when Sivan released "For Him" featuring his friend, Australian rapper Allday.

Sivan said in promotional materials that he had a "sweet moment" with an unnamed man after playing the song for the man. A cheeky fan tweeted at Allday that it "was cool" that he could rap about Franta, who the Twitter user identified as "Troye's beautiful boyfriend."

The rapper replied that he was happy to be involved in the love song, adding, "They're cute." Allday tried to backpedal by playing coy about his friend's love life but later deleted the tweet.

Shortly after the January 2016 release of his song with Allday, Sivan began dating his only confirmed boyfriend, model and photographer Jacob Bixenman. While speaking about what attracted him to the model in August 2018, the singer said:

"I don't know, I mean, I think he's got like a kind of energy about him, a magnetic sort of energy. I think people can't help but love him. He's just got one of those personalities that draws people in (sic)."

The pair met at a fashion show, and the actor admits that as far as labels go, they began dating "pretty much since the day" they were introduced. He enjoyed living with Bixenman in Los Angeles as it was like having his "best friend around all the time."

In January 2019, Sivan sparked dating rumors with Lauv after he tweeted a suggestive post to promote their "i'm so tired" hit they were to perform on a late-night show. The post made fans wonder if Lauv was his boyfriend, best friend, or a publicity stunt to promote their new track.

Sivan's liberal use of internet slang won him a few more headlines in March 2023.

Barely three weeks after, Sivan tweeted a photo with Bixenman to celebrate their third anniversary on February 11, 2019. He tweeted, "3 years today luckiest boy alive. love you lots."

One year later, the couple reportedly broke up after Sivan left the United States for Australia to self-isolate with his family during the pandemic in 2020.

At the time of the July 2020 report, the couple had not been interacting on social media since November 2019, and their anniversary in February 2020 went uncelebrated online.

Troye Sivan Recently Sparked Dating Rumors with Publicist Brett Ruttenberg, yet Later Denied Them

Sivan's liberal use of internet slang won him a few more headlines in March 2023. "Hard launch," he captioned a relaxed photo with Brett Ruttenberg.

However, as fans congratulated him in the comments section, he amended the caption to "Hard launch (as publicist and bestie)" shortly after. The term "hard launch" can refer to a couple going public with their relationship.
