"As someone who identifies as a black, bisexual woman, I've been through it, and it hurts, and it's awkward, and it's uncomfortable."

Stenberg credited the bravery of other black female celebrities who have spoken publicly about their sexuality which inspired them also to have the courage to come out and embrace their true identity. Those courageous women included Solange Knowles, Ava DuVernay, and Willow Smith.

They ended their message by calling for Hollywood to be more diverse and highlighting the importance of overall acceptance. Diversity in Hollywood has been a big issue for quite some time, with many calling for diversification in race, gender, and sexual orientation among mainstream movie stars in the mega-industry.

Two years later, Stenberg confirmed that they were not bisexual but gay. They told Wonderland magazine they were relieved after realizing they were gay, "not bi, not pan, but gay—with a romantic love for women."
