Man Calls Terminally Ill Wife ‘a Fat Old Loser Who I Hate’ — She Films It to ‘Protect’ Her Children From Him
- Catherine Kassenoff was a brave woman who fought a long custody battle for over four years.
- She claimed her husband Allan Kassenoff abused her and took her children from her.
- Eventually, Catherine decided to take her own life but left video evidence of the hostile environment she and her children endured.
Catherine Kassenoff was a brave woman and a mother of two who fought a long custody battle for over four years with her husband, Allan Kassenoff.
Disappointed with the humiliating treatment she received from the court of New York, Catherine started sharing her heartbreaking story on Facebook.
Her posts ended up becoming famous, with several people following her story. Catherine was a woman willing to fight until her last breath to save herself and her children from her husband's abuse.
In the midst of her years-long custody battle, Catherine had already survived breast cancer twice. She was a former assistant U.S. attorney who was then-special counsel to New York Governor Kathy Hochul.
Her legal background and her tenacity were what kept her going; in fact, Catherine said, "I do believe the only way out is to fight it."
Despite reporting the abuse she and her children endured, Catherine wrote that her case had over 3000 court filings, 80 motions, three child attoneys, and therapists.
The mother of two said the state was making money at the expense of her family and that her children had been diagnosed with multiple mental illnesses and trauma while being turned against her and told to call her Catherine instead of Mom.
Along the way, things were looking better for Catherine. She announced that she went from limited visitations to unsupervised, a significant milestone.
However, in January 2022, Catherine was arrested for violating a protective order and visiting her child at school. She said she was handcuffed and escorted out of her child's school by four police officers.
The arrest did not only cost her her visitation rights but her job. Soon after, another report was filed stating that Catherine was manipulative toward her children, so in May 2023, her vitiation rights were suspended.
Her husband worked as a litigator, and according to Catherine, he was able to manipulate the system, despite her daughters reporting his abuse towards them.
The breast cancer survivor got her husband removed from their house, but it did not last long, until she had to pay therapeutic supervisors over $70,000 just to be allowed to be with her children.
She lost her home and was forced to live out of her car and sleep on her friend's couches. After finding herself out of money, and still trying to fight for her daughters, she was diagnosed with terminal cancer and announced on Facebook that she planned to end her life in Europe.
Catherine Kassenoff’s Heartbreaking Videos
In a final effort to fight for her children, Catherine shared videos of how hostile of an environment she and her daughters lived in. In one of the videos, she was lying sick in bed, asking her husband to take their daughter to school, and he profusely refused and started calling their child spoiled, stating that he would stop taking her to extracurricular activities and that he was never going to do anything for his daughter.
Catherine tried to calm the situation down by reminding Allan not to speak to their children in a harsh tone. The man continued to scream and shout despite Catherine telling him to apologize to his children.
In another video, Catherine told Allan she had to go to the doctor, and he continued to shout that he was leaving and not caring for his children.
Allan continued to refer to Catherine as a "thing," with his children shouting and asking him to stop. He told his wife he hated her, and even called her a "fat loser." All this while Catherine was battling terminal cancer. The videos gained so much traction, that all the charges against Catherine were dropped after the evidence was provided.
Catherine's Last Message
In her final message, Catherine told her readers she would take her own life in an "idyllic setting in Europe." She reiterated that she had spent the last four years being tortured by Allan and could no longer endure the pain of being without her children.
From the evictions and waking up to a hostile environment, Catherine said she had reached her breaking point and realized nothing was left for her to do. If Catherine had the physical strength to continue, she would continue to fight, but she explained that with her terminal illness, she would have lost the battle anyway.
Looking back on all the fighting she did, Catherine always found herself in conflict with her husband, which affected her children. So she concluded that her presence brought her children more harm than peace.
The disheartened mother expressed how unfair the justice system was towards her and hoped her fight would continue even when she was gone. Catherine believed that all children deserved better, and so did her daughters.
In her final post, she addressed Greenberg Traurig, the law firm where Allan worked, and revealed that instead of helping her, the company issued a statement that they were conducting investigations while Allan was on voluntary leave.
The mother claimed that Greenberg Traurig knew of her situation but did nothing to help her, her children, or other domestic abuse survivors.
She urged her readers to take everything she wrote in the past and the video evidence she provided as proof of the kind man Allan was and not to let the world nor her children forget what she fought for.
Here is a story of a woman who took in her friend after finding out the kind of abuse she endured at home.
