‘Good Times’ John Amos’ Daughter Claims Dad Hospitalized, Fell Victim to Elder Abuse & Financial Exploitation
- "Good Times" star John Amos' daughter claims her father fell victim to elder abuse and financial exploitation.
- The actor's representative replied to his daughter's claims.
- Fans didn't know who to believe, with the actor's son giving a long-awaited explanation about the situation that happened to his father.
John Amos, 83, was an actor who famously played the role of James Evans Sr. on the CBS television series, "Good Times." Some people may recognize him from his starring role in "Coming to America," and its sequel, while others remember him from "Roots."
On June 8, 2023, John's daughter, Shannon Amos, shared an Instagram photo of them posing together. In the caption, the star's daughter revealed that in November 2022, she and her father created a video together that she cherished.

The celebrity's daughter, who spoke for herself and her family, explained how oblivious she had been of the challenges around the corner. On May 14, 2023, she received a "distressing call" from her father, who allegedly told her he was in pain at a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
At the time, she was out of the country and had to arrange assistance for him, with the ICU revealing he was close to death. Shannon said their world was shattered in the past two weeks as she discovered her father was "a victim of elder abuse and financial exploitation."

The star's daughter said she and her family worked with local authorities and the Colorado Bureau of Investigations to get justice against the perpetrators. She shared how they required legal help to ensure prosecution and to protect John's future.
Shannon said her father's home had been "stripped bare," and he required a safe space to return to. She also shared that the cruelty left them bewildered, but they held onto hope, and any donation made would go into legal fees and her father's aftercare.
She urged people to help them win by sending love with the hope that they could dance together again. John's daughter said her fans' support meant the world as they hoped justice and healing would prevail.
Shannon also set up a donation fund for those who wished to provide support and care for the actor, with all the monies going to a trust fund. She concluded her post by thanking her followers for their prayers, love, care, support, and positive energy.
On June 6, 2023, Shannon created a GoFundMe account hoping to raise $500,000 for her father, and by June 9, she'd accumulated over $9,000. In part, the star's child expressed her disgruntlement with society in the GoFundMe, saying:
"The cruelty inflicted upon my dad leaves me questioning what kind of human could commit such acts."
According to a report, John's daughter could communicate with him via FaceTime to hear what had gone wrong before he had to disconnect when his pain became unbearable.
The celebrity's daughter didn't clarify who was responsible for allegedly abusing her father but mentioned a "caregiver." However, some contradicting information came from John's son and representative.
What Did John's Representative Say in Reply to the Claims?
On June 8, 2023, an update was given on John's matter, with a publication claiming to have spoken to the actor. The media house said the star shared that Shannon's outlook on the issue was a lie and that no one was abusing him.

The "The West Wing" star allegedly said he wasn't fighting for his life and didn't know why his daughter started the GoFundMe account. Belinda Foster, his representative, claimed her client was hospitalized due to his fluid-filled lower body. The fluid had reached his abdomen, causing heart problems.
Foster revealed that doctors drained all the liquid, and the actor had recently started to feel "100%." On June 9, 2023, the celebrity's other child, K.C. Amos, finally had his say.
Taking to Instagram, he shared a video showing buildings at night while music played in the background. Over the clip, he wrote, "The Go Fund was not authorized by John Amos," and emphasized his statement by writing, "Period" in the caption.

K.C.'s father's official Instagram account also uploaded the same clip with the same caption. The contradicting statements confused fans, and John's son gave his version.
Fans Had Mixed Reactions & Son Gives Long-Awaited Explanation
A fan who replied to Shannon's statement noted to others that reports said John's daughter was lying and he wasn't in agreement with the GoFundMe. The follower said he thought Shannon was "being shady" and that the whole thing was about money, as was always the case with celebrity children.

Someone replied to the fan saying the person who spoke to the media, probably a close family member of his son, was trying to "derail the truth" Shannon was speaking up about. The follower felt one must be "an idiot" to believe anything TMZ reported.
A fan who replied to K.C.'s post said someone was "boldly lying." They noted that John was so sick he required medical attention, but someone took advantage of him financially. The person called out the star's son for admitting those things before asking him why he was acting as if his sister was lying.

Another person noted how Shannon had confirmed that the GoFundMe creation wasn't against their father's wishes because he was a private person.
The fan felt the celebrity's daughter was reaching out for assistance in an unmalicious way. A third person wanted to know if K.C. was asking people not to trust what his sister was posting about their father's well-being, while someone else wrote:
"I was waiting to hear from you and ONLY you!!! God bless you all!"

Another Instagram user asked if K.C. was the one who was abusing their father because Shannon had explained herself. The fan hoped the brother wasn't the culprit as they'd always felt filming John was done to exploit him.
The matter was described as an interstate crime and a federal one.

K.C.'s account replied to the person promising that the truth would come out soon. The actor's son's Instagram revealed that Katie Rodgers, his father's former caregiver, and her husband, Andrew Rodgers, defrauded him and were now on the run in Kansas City.

The couple allegedly cared for John in October 2022, and at the end of the month, when K.C. arrived trying to get clarity on the fraud, the pair disappeared on him. K. C.'s account also noted how Andrew went by the name "white hacker" and was connected to the Proud Boys as one of their underlings.

One person asked what had happened and hoped Shannon's father was okay. K.C.'s account repeated about the Rodgers couple defrauding the actor. It was anticipated that it would be years before the case was resolved.

The documentary K.C. and his father created for release in 2024 was said to hold "sizzling" information and was described as a "real crime drama." Andrews was said to have ordered hits on Latin and Black elders' bank accounts.

Someone else who replied to John's post about the GoFundMe being unauthorized felt something suspicious was happening with John's case. The account reiterated K.C.'s statement about the Rodger's story and said the couple was "hissing in a basement" as the matter was exposed.
The matter was described as an interstate and federal crime. The account asked if anything else had been left out and encouraged the fan to let them know if they'd left anything out.
