Ebon Moss-Bachrach's Wife Yelena Yemchuk Is a Ukrainian-Born Photographer

Ebon Moss-Bachrach's Wife, Yelena Yemchuk, fell in love with film and photography from a young age. After relocating to America, the actor's wife has made a name for herself in the art world and has worked with Vogue, The York Times, and others.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach is an American actor commonly known for his roles in "Girls," "The Punisher," and "The Bear." And while he has made a name for himself in front of the camera, his wife found success behind the camera as a photographer.

When Ebon Moss-Bachrach first met his wife, she had no interest in dating an actor. However, over a decade later, the couple has tied the knot and welcomed two children, with Ebon Moss-Bachrach's wife supporting her husband's career.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach's Wife Is a Multi-Faceted Artist

Born in Kyiv, Ukraine, Yemchuk was 11 when her family immigrated to the US. When she was 14, her father handed her a 35mm Minolta camera for her birthday, kickstarting her love for photography and a successful career.

After studying art at Parsons in New York and photography at Art Center in Pasadena, California, the actor's wife made a name for herself as a visual artist.

She exhibited paintings, films, and photography at galleries and museums worldwide and has shot for the New Yorker, Another, New York Times, ID, Vogue, and more. She said:

"My film infatuation started very early. I saw 'Blue Velvet' when I was 15, and that was that—it blew my mind. In art school, I had a very good teacher."

In April 2011, Yemchuk released her book of striking photography, "Gidropark," followed by her second book, "Anna Maria," in 2017. After her first institutional debut featuring her photography and video work, she published a monograph, "Mabel, Betty & Bette," in March 2021. More recently, she created her third book "Odesa," released in May 2022.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach and His Wife Were in Relationships When They Met

Moss-Bachrach was raised in Amherst, Massachusetts, and moved to New York in the 1990s to attend Columbia. While in New York, he began acting and took on a few odd jobs to support himself.

He and Yemchuk had different relationships when they met at a friend's dinner party. And, although the actor caught Yemchuk's eye, she had reservations about dating an actor. Moss-Bachrach's wife said:

"When I saw Ebon, I was, like, 'Oh, my God, he's cute. Who is this guy?' My friend was, like, 'Forget it, he has a girlfriend, and he's an actor.' And I was, like, 'Ugh!' When you think of an actor as a boyfriend, that's not where you want to go..."

They began dating a year and a half later, and while Yemchuk admitted to thinking actors were a no-go-zone at the time, the visual artists admitted to having a change of heart. "Ebon is the least actor-y actor I've ever met," she said.

Following the start of their relationship, Moss-Bachrach's career has grown, and during an interview, the actor revealed that Yemchuk had supported his career. After watching the pilot of one of his projects and feeling unsure of the result, Moss-Bachrach's wife offered him the reassurance he needed.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach and His Wife Have Two Children

In the late 2000s, Moss-Bachrach and his wife welcomed their eldest daughter, Sasha. A few years later, their family grew when their second daughter was born. The family of four resides in Brooklyn, and while Moss-Bachrach stars as a cook in "The Bear," —co-starring Jeremy Allen White—the actor revealed that he is also a wizard in the kitchen off-camera. He said:

"[Cooking] is a great thing to be able to do...It's something that I probably started doing when I had kids..."

Yemchuk shared that she also knew her way around the kitchen, but her skills were not as good as those of her husband. "I used to cook before I met Ebon. I'm just not as good. He has a real gift," she said.
