Gwyneth Paltrow’s Grown-up Daughter Appears in Her Mom’s Semi-sheer Gown ‘Everyone Hated’ & Called Hideous
- Gwyneth Paltrow's little girl, Apple Martin, is not so little anymore and is now 19 years old!
- Years ago, while attending the 2002 Oscars, Paltrow was seen adorning a goth-inspired semi-sheer Alexander McQueen dress that became infamously ridiculed by critics who said it looked unflattering.
- Recently, Apple wore the same dress again, and now fans say she rocks it better than her mom.
Everyone remembers the infamous 2002 Oscar dress that famous Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow wore. The scandalous semi-sheer gown, which was designed by the incomparable Alexander McQueen, was the center of a widescale controversy that adversely affected Paltrow.
Years later, sitting down with Vogue magazine, the "Great Expectations" star came across the sheer bodice dress while revisiting a catalog of past looks she had worn. The look in its entirety was dubbed a fashion disaster that was vastly unflattering.

The dress that bared it all was a goth-inspired design that exposed Paltrow's body. While discussing the dress with Vogue, Paltrow recalled how much everyone hated the gown, despite giving an explanation about the concept she and the designer were trying to convey:
"Everybody really hated this [dress], by the way, but I think it's kinda dope; I'm into it. I had like a weird hangover about it for a while because people were really critical. I think at the time it was too goth, [and] I think people thought it was too hard, so I think it sort of shocked people, but I like it."

Setting the clock to years following Paltrow's dress nightmare, her daughter, Apple, recently appeared on her mom's Instagram story adorning the same dress that caused a commotion years ago. In the post, Paltrow shared a fan question about whether Apple ever wore her mom's fashion looks. Paltrow then answered by posting a cute picture of her daughter wearing the 2002 Oscar dress.
Unfortunately, at first, the negative rhetoric remained the same. Some viewers of the story maintained the narrative that the dress was still hideous, despite Apple now being the one wearing it:
"Breaking news: After all these years, the gown is still hideous."

However, some fans disagreed with the backlash about how Apple looked in her mother's dress. In fact, many who got to view the Instagram Story reported how much better the gown suits Apple than it did her mother:
"She wears it better than her mom."

Gwyneth Paltrow Opens up about the Gift of Motherhood She Experienced with Her Daughter
From the outside, looking in, Paltrow appears to have had a perfect life - a hugely successful career as both an actress and entrepreneur, a loving family, and a life embedded in the glitz and glam of Hollywood. However, the "Iron Man" talent recently opened up on her podcast about her struggles at some points in her life, mainly discussing how alone she felt.
During the 53-minute episode Paltrow produced alongside world-renowned musician Katy Perry, she admitted how having kids can have the ability to put a strain on one's relationship. Though Perry agreed with the actress, she added that the difficulty becomes more manageable if one is involved in an equal partnership where both members of the relationship are willing to pull their weight.

Although Paltrow stated that the intermix of juggling kids and relationships might get somewhat complex, she also maintained that prior to her having kids, she felt profoundly lonely. Despite having dated some of Hollywood's most sought-after actors - Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck, etc., she disclosed how her life changed for the better once she had her firstborn daughter:
"I never felt lonely again after I had [Apple]... and I had felt profoundly lonely in my life."
The doting mom of two shares her kids, Apple and Moses Martin, with popular band frontman of Coldplay, Chris Martin. Despite her preference in trying her best to keep her kids away from the spotlight, in a previous interview on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" with fill-in host John Legend, she spoke freely about the special relationship she shares with Apple.
The blonde beauty was transparent in her assertion that she is just a regular goofy mom outside of being a famous Hollywood star. While speaking about Apple, Paltrow revealed how her daughter had been at the age where she found everything her mom did embarrassing.
When it comes to who wore the hugely controversial Alexander McQueen gown circa 2002 best, the fans have spoken, and the verdict is Apple.
The discussion involved little anecdotes about her life as a mom, specifically focusing on her relationship with Apple. During the episode, Paltrow divulged:
"I mean, my daughter finds me mortifying. Because, like, if I do anything in public passed, like, not talking and standing still, she's like, 'Oh my God. Stop, stop.' So if I like, dance, she turns red."
Paltrow then spoke about a story in which she admits she might have experienced a lapse in judgment as a mother. One day while teaching her daughter how to drive, Apple went through a red light, and as a knee-jerk reaction, Paltrow yelled at her.
Instantly regretting her decision, as she saw her daughter start to cry, Paltrow then profusely apologized and soothed Apple. She said that from that moment, she decided she would never be short with her again, and as a result, Apple became a good driver.
Gwyneth Paltrow Struggles with the Fact That Her Babygirl Is All-Grown Up Now
After much of her childhood had been kept private from the public eye, Apple started to make a name for herself in the fashion industry as a late teen. Having recently sat in the front row of Chanel's haute couture runway, Apple's chic style is being likened to her stylish mother's past iconic looks.
Apparently, at the age of four, the late and great Karl Lagerfeld had predicted that the budding beauty would become a Chanel "It" girl. The uniquely named girl, who people deem the spitting image of her mom, has even helped her mom develop products for her incredibly successful lifestyle brand "Goop."
In 2022, Paltrow revealed how Apple would leave home to attend college in October that same year. Just like Paltrow admitted to not being ready to have the sex talk with her daughter at a point where she was taught sex-ed in her 6th-grade class, she admitted to being even more ill-equipped to handle Apple's venture to university:
"It was horrible. It was truly horrifying. I was sick to my stomach, bursting into tears."
Paltrow found it hard to watch her daughter grow up and spread her wings by moving away to study because of the mother and daughter's close bond. She recounted how bittersweet the moment felt when Apple had come home over the break from college to visit the family.
For Paltrow, though she loved seeing her daughter over the weekend she came back home, it was not as much time as she wanted. In January of this year, the mother of two even posted a throwback selfie of them with a caption that expressed how she has still not gotten used to not seeing her beloved daughter every day anymore.
Though Apple may have used her creative intellect to help her mom with her product launch, the blue-eyed beauty is still discovering herself and what she wants to do career-wise. When her mom was asked whether she would pursue a business venture with her regularly, Paltrow answered:
"I don't know. I think both of my kids are sort of like, 'We don't want to think about what we want to do. We just want to see what unfolds.'"
When it comes to who wore the hugely controversial Alexander McQueen gown circa 2002 best, the fans have spoken, and the verdict is Apple. Paltrow is a proud mama, and though she misses seeing her daughter regularly, she remains excited to see what amazing things Apple will accomplish as she grows.
