Paul Loves an Ordinary Life despite Having a Million Dollar Fortune

Paul is a famous and wealthy singer, but that hasn't stopped him from loving the ordinary things in life. He revealed that he has a car and likes going on drives, but what gives him the most pleasure is taking the bus.

The "Penny Lane" singer said when he was young, he loved taking the bus with three or four stops just so he could get out and look around. He noted that he found taking a bus to be "very grounding" for him:

"But there's something about that, being ordinary... I mean, I know I can't be ordinary at all – I'm way too famous to be ordinary – but, for me, that feeling inside, of feeling like myself still, is very important."

Paul, who was worth $37 million as of 2020, revealed that he once took a bus in New York and noticed that people had seen him, but since the bus was full of New Yorkers, the people remained cool and didn't say anything to him.

However, one black woman came to him and asked if he was Paul McCartney, and the singer said yes. The woman asked Paul why he was riding a bus, but he just told her to sit next to him so he could hear her.

Paul spends time with his grandkids and has a good time with them as much as they don't live near each other.

Paul said he and the woman ended up having a wonderful conversation where he learned she was going to visit her sister:

"That's why I like a proper conversation. Being ordinary. I love that. It means a lot to me – maybe too much to me. I wouldn't have wanted to get on the bus and sort of announce myself."

Paul, who loves the ordinary things in life, said it's hard for him to enjoy them because he is famous, but when he gets a chance to indulge in the normal, it gives him lots of joy.

The "Let It Be" hitmaker also opened up about his relationship with fame. He noted that when he first became famous, he enjoyed the attention.

However, when he just wants to have a private dinner at a restaurant, and people keep approaching him, then fame becomes something he doesn't find as attractive as he used to.

Paul added that he has a team that manages his social media because he doesn't like the pressure that comes from the channels:

"…when I do dip in, I kind of enjoy it, especially when something important has happened, like someone's birthday or someone has died…."

He revealed how much he loved his private life and wasn't interested in sharing everything on social media, including his meals.

Paul, who loves being a grandfather, noted that he avoids taking pictures with fans on the streets because taking random photos makes him feel unlike himself. "I've got to be myself," he concluded.

Paul Loves His Grandkids Who He Goes on Holiday With

Paul has a big family and has been blessed with grandkids. The singer's daughter Mary McCartney has given him four grandkids, Arthur Donald, Elliot Donald, Sam Aboud, and Sid Aboud.

Stella has also given Paul four grandkids, just like her older sister. The fashion designer's kids are Alasdhair Willis, Miller Alasdhair James Willis, Bailey Linda Olwyn Willis, and Reiley Dilys Stella Willis.

Paul spends time with his grandkids and has a good time with them as much as they don't live near each other. He noted that they go on holidays together, such as Christmas:

"And in the summer, we'll see each other. And then sometimes me and Nancy pick them up from school. So that's nice. I love them, and I love being a granddad."

The 81-year-old, who is married to Nancy Shevell, has a couple of holidays with his grandkids each year, and he spends it reading to them. Paul said as a grandfather, he is less responsible and lets his grandkids enjoy more screen time before bedtime than they would with their parents.

"You don't have to bother with that. I like the babysitting thing because you can spoil the kids a bit. I picked up a rug in America that says, 'Grandchildren spoilt here!"'
