American singer-songwriter Clint Black has been on the music scene since the late 1980s. He has released many hit songs and captured the world's hearts with his sweet lyrics and catchy melodies.
Recently, he has faced some health struggles which have led to him needing surgery, but he has had an excellent support system. His wife of thirty years and his daughter have been there for him every step of the way.
On Father's Day, Black's daughter, Lily Pearl, took to Instagram to share a tribute to her father. She shared a photo carousel showing Black holding her just after birth and three photos of them performing together.
In the caption, Lily talked about how much her father meant to her and said she was a "proud daughter every single day." Lily also called her father her "best friend and role model" and said she was lucky to have him as her "idol."
Lily is an only child and, as such, sees her parents as her best friends. She shares characteristics with both her parents and says that because they are all so close, they have fun together.
Black and his wife have always maintained a close relationship with their daughter. She arrived in the couple's tenth year of marriage, and Hartman immediately stepped back from the spotlight so she could be there for her daughter.
Black did the same, putting his career on hold for the first three years of Lily's life. He watched a Billy Joel interview in which Joel mentioned that he didn't want to be "Uncle Daddy." The phrase stuck with Black as he knew he also didn't want that.
What Are Black's Health Issues?
Black was meant to perform at the 2023 Black Gold Bash in Midland but had to pull out because of a health issue he was facing. A representative for the singer said he would have to undergo a procedure on his back before he could perform again.

Black also rescheduled some other shows he was meant to perform due to the issue. Even though he is scheduled to return to the stage this weekend, June 24, 2023, the procedure affected his Kansas, Midland, Oklahoma, and Texas shows.
The tour, called Summer's Comin', was meant to end on September 24, but because Black was the headliner and had to undergo the doctor-advised procedure, the tour will end later in the year.
The tour comes after Black spent his last tour with his wife and daughter, performing nationwide. The tour was called Mostly Hits and The Mrs., and when it concluded, Black thanked the fans for their support and his wife and daughter for making the tour memorable.

That tour began in November last year and concluded early this year. Talking about watching his daughter on stage, he gushed:
"It's especially nice as a dad to watch people react to her [Lily] hitting these high notes on a Carrie Underwood song or something and seeing their reaction. It's thrilling to see she has the fire now; it's lit."

Now, Black says he hopes that he will be able to bring his family on every tour with him, even if they don't perform every show together. Black planned to do 70 cities without his wife and daughter but hoped he'd be able to bring them along again later in the year.
Black and Hartman's Love Story
When they met, Hartman and Black had established careers in the public eye, but they were so caught up in their worlds that Black didn't even know who Hartman was when he met her backstage at his concert in 1990.
The New Year's Eve concert saw the couple's first encounter, and when talking about the moment they saw one another, Hartman recalled:
"It was slow motion like you see in the movies. There was something there."
Black agreed, saying he knew when he looked at her that he was staring at someone amazing, even though he didn't know her. Her eyes immediately caught his attention and let him know there was something special about her.
The pair didn't immediately connect, but a mutual friend passed Hartman's number to Black a few days later. He called her, and the couple tied the knot ten months after that first phone call.
Black considers his wife his most significant influence and says their relationship has inspired him to write some of his most classic country songs. He felt after they fell in love, every love song he wrote had to reflect who they were as a couple.
Other than being the inspiration behind the songs he writes, sometimes Hartman performs them with him. However, Hartman decided she would not record much music because she had released some albums and felt her husband's career was so significant that she could step back and allow him to chase his dreams.
Although she never recorded any more of her albums, Black didn't want her talents to go unseen. He had her perform with him whenever possible and got her back into the studio with their hit song "When I Say I Do."
Hartman was not keen to go back to recording, but talking about how he got her to the studio, Black recalled:
"I go, 'Sing this with me,' because she would sing harmony on my favorite songs around the kitchen. So after two days, we're singing this song, and she sounds great, and then I told her, 'You're going to have to record that with me.'"
She told him she wouldn't do it because she didn't believe she was a "real singer." However, Black persuaded her by saying if she didn't sing with him, he would sing it alone, and she would always look back and wish she had sung it with him.
Now, the couple have performed together many times and have even included their daughter in their careers. When asked how they have an enduring marriage in an industry where that isn't common, Black revealed they nurture their relationship and have consistently grown together, never apart.
