Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, has been diagnosed with breast cancer detected at an early stage. The 63-year-old went for a routine screening, where she learned about her condition.

According to her representative who spoke to People, Ferguson didn't have any symptoms of the disease. The doctors suggested she should undergo surgery to treat her medical condition.

Following the medical advice, the Duchess of York underwent surgery. Per her representative, she "is receiving the best medical care, and her doctors have told her that the prognosis is good."

The spokesperson further conveyed her thanks to all the medical staff involved in her treatment and the professionals who did her mammogram screening. According to her representative, learning that she had breast cancer without experiencing symptoms made Ferguson realize the importance of regular medical checkups.

A day before her surgery, Ferguson recorded a podcast episode for her show "Tea Talks with the Duchess and Sarah," where she spoke about her breast cancer journey.

Sarah Ferguson Gives First Comments

In the fourth episode of her podcast with Sarah Jane Thomson, the Duchess of York opened up about her feelings after being diagnosed with breast cancer and conveyed an important message to the listeners.

Before talking about the day she went for her regular mammogram screening, Ferguson revealed that her father passed away after battling prostate cancer and that he urged everyone to get it checked.

While talking about his diagnosis, Ferguson revealed how his friends reacted upon hearing the news. "No one wants to hear from you, Ronald," his friends said, according to Ferguson.

She said she wouldn't be bothered if people reacted the same way after learning about her condition. All she wanted was for people to go for a mammogram screening to be on the safe side. She said:

"I want every single person that is listening to this podcast to go get checked. Go get screened."

After urging her listeners, Ferguson discussed what happened on her screening day. She recalled not wanting to go because it was hot, but her sister insisted. Ferguson said she could have delayed the screening to the following week, but it was because of her sister that she learned about her breast cancer.

After her successful surgery, she rests surrounded by her family, but one of her friends said, "It's been a difficult time" for her. Regardless, Ferguson thanked the people involved in her treatment and early detection.

The Duchess of York received her title after tying the knot with her ex-husband Prince Andrew in 1986. Their marriage ended ten years later, but they still live together and have a good relationship.

Sarah Ferguson Becomes a Grandmother Again

Two weeks ago, Ferguson shared a photo of her newest grandchild, which Princess Eugenie originally shared. The baby boy, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank, was born on May 30, 2023.

This was Princess Eugenie's second child and Ferguson's third grandchild. Princess Eugenie's Instagram post consists of two pictures. The first showed a photo of the newborn sleeping peacefully, wearing a blue knitted cap.

Meanwhile, the second photo showed August, Princess Eugenie's firstborn, looking at the little one with his hand gently placed on the baby's head. Princess Eugenie shared in the caption:

"He is named after his great great great Grandfather George, his Grandpa George, and my Grandpa Ronald."

Ferguson shared a photo of her newborn grandson and referred to Oscar Wilde while appreciating her daughter and son-in-law for giving birth to the little one.

"Amazing... The importance of Ernest... Thank you so so much, clever Eugenie, Jack, and August Brooksbank," she wrote in her post, which has received over 43,000 likes.
