Stanley Stocker-Edwards Is Patti Labelle's Adopted Son
Stanley Stocker-Edwards was born and raised in Philadelphia, and his biological parents worked as meat cutters and wrappers. He has a brother named Dodd Stocker-Edwards. Unfortunately, tragedy struck their family, leaving the siblings orphaned.
Stanley's family was known to be neighbors of the renowned singer Patti LaBelle. After learning about the death of the siblings' mother, Patti took them in and welcomed the siblings into her home.
Welcoming the siblings at home was not new for Patti, as her son with then-husband Armstead Edwards, Zuri Kye Edwards, had been close friends with Stanley and Dodd.
Patti recalled that the trio would do their homework and were "very attached" to each other. The musician and Armstead became legal guardians of the orphaned boys. Two years later, the pair eventually adopted the brothers.
The music superstar took on the role of treating Stanley and his brother as her children. She sent them to school and made efforts to instill discipline in them.
Patti admitted that she tends to be a "soft parent" because of her love for children, making it difficult for her to say no, except in cases deemed crucial matters for her.
Her admirable efforts as an adoptive mother and advocate for child adoption in the foster care system earned her a certificate of appreciation from former New York City Mayor Ed Koch. Stanley and his adoptive family later participated in a public campaign encouraging adoption.
While pursuing law, Stanley has been involved in creative writing.

Despite Michelle's doubts about finding the right partner, she met and married Barack Obama, who later made history as the first-ever Black president of the country. Together, they have two daughters, Malia Obama and Sasha Obama.
