As of this writing, Madonna is reportedly conscious and in recovery mode. Her daughter Lourdes Leon was said to be by her side amid this health scare.

The songwriter's longtime manager, Guy Oseary, revealed on his Instagram account that Madonna "developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several-day stay in the ICU."

Madonna's management team reportedly had a crisis meeting on Zoom on June 25, 2023, where they decided to postpone her upcoming gigs amid fears that she might not make it.

Subsequently, the team decided to put the Michigan native's 40th anniversary tour on hold shortly after the event was given a go and was set in motion.

Although a source revealed that Madonna was now out of the intensive care unit, Oseary explained otherwise in his social upload, writing:

"She is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected."

Meanwhile, the actress's two sons, Rocco Ritchie, and David Banda, have since appeared in public for the first time since news of her hospitalization made headlines.

That same day, the Queen of Pop's eldest son Rocco, who had flown in from Romania, was photographed looking anxious while running errands. His little brother David also reportedly seemed somber while taking a walk in the city.

Madonna's eldest child Lourdes, was reportedly in Paris when news of her health scare made the rounds. She learned about her being rushed to the hospital in France and quickly made her way to the US to be by her side.

Meanwhile, Lourdes' little brother Rocco had just completed a week-long motorbike trip with his two pals in Transylvania, Romania. He posted about the experience on his social media.

The trip ended the same day his famous mother was rushed to the hospital, and he hurried to see her too. In addition, a relative reportedly revealed how the family handled the news:

"For the past couple of days, no one really knew which direction this was going to turn, and her family was preparing for the worst. [...] Everyone believed that we may lose her, and that has been the reality of the situation."

Another insider disclosed the "Material Girl" had been straining herself while rehearsing for her upcoming tour at Long Island's Nassau Coliseum for a few weeks before her health scare:

"She had been putting in 12-hour days. She was strenuously rehearsing and putting in the work."

Early this year, Madonna announced that she would launch her "Celebration" tour in honor of her four-decade-long musical career anniversary.

The tour was due to commence on July 15, 2023, in Vancouver. Oseary shared on Instagram that they would disclose new dates for the tour, including rescheduled shows.

Madonna Has Had Several Health Issues in Recent Years

This is not the first time Madonna has had to postpone one of her tours due to health issues. Her "Madame X" tour was plagued by hold-ups after launching in September 2019.

Following its conclusion in March of the following year, the superstar was said to have suffered injuries that subsequently led to her undergoing surgery. They were so dominant that she had to cancel several shows on the tour.

It all started with her performance in New York City in October 2019, where she endured a "knee injury." Doctors advised her to take a break from the tour to recover, and within the following months, three shows were canceled.

More shows were impacted in January 2020 after it was announced she would not be able to take to the stage at a concert in Lisbon that month because of the pain she was experiencing from her multiple injuries.

One of her shows in London got canceled again that same month, and it was reported doctors had advised her to rest. Shortly before the tour ended prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Madonna canceled another show in Paris in March 2020 over "ongoing injuries."

She posted on social media then, writing, "If only knees didn't twist and cartilage didn't tear, and nothing hurt, and tears never fell out of our eyes. But alas, they do."

The Grammy Award winner further revealed she fell on stage due to an accident. "I landed on the floor on my tailbone," she explained. Months later, Madonna announced she sought treatment for a "missing cartilage" following her injuries.

It is believed the "Popular" singer underwent surgery around 2020 and later suggested she had hip replacement surgery after the tour. In the "Madame X Presents: Madame Xtra Q&A," Madonna divulged:

"[...] I was in more pain that I've ever been in in my life. I'm a bionic woman ... I had hip replacement surgery."

Amid several injuries and surgeries, Madonna also got infected with COVID toward the end of her "Madame X" tour in March 2020. But she eventually got better.

Above all else, Madonna is a doting mother to her six children. The family matriarch welcomed her eldest child Lourdes with her former husband, fitness trainer Carlos Leon, in October 1996.

Lourdes is now a successful fashion model and has worked with Rihanna's Savage x Fenty line, Marc Jacobs, and Burberry, to mention a few. She has also been featured in Vogue and Vanity Fair.

Following her divorce from Carlos in May 1997, Madonna started dating director Guy Ritchie in 1998. The pair welcomed their son Rocco in August 2000, and he was christened in Scotland at Dornoch Cathedral in December of that year. The couple wed the next day at Skibo Castle but later divorced in 2008.

Like his big sister, Rocco is also a model and an actor. He was previously photographed with his mother in Love magazine and appeared in one of her music videos.

Madonna's third child, David, was born in Malawi in September 2005. She and her ex-husband Guy adopted the then-one-year-old from Home of Hope, an orphanage in the capital city of Lilongwe. However, following legal issues, the adoption was officially approved on May 28, 2008.

All grown-up, David has often been seen next to his megastar mother during her performances. In June 2022, he joined her on stage at her New York City Pride variety show, dancing.

Madonna's fourth child Chifundo "Mercy" James, was also born in Malawi in January 2006. Madonna applied to adopt her in May 2009 from an orphanage in Blantyre, Malawi. Her application initially got rejected, but she was later approved to adopt Mercy on June 12, 2009.

Madonna's twins, Stella and Estere, were born in Malawi in August 2012. She adopted them when they were only five years old in February 2017.

As the family's youngest members have grown, they have discovered their talents. The proud mom has shown off Stella's piano skills, and her daughters are also talented dancers. They graduated from elementary school in June 2023.
