A woman from a Spanish town carried her baby boy for nine months anticipating all the love she would give him when he was born. She didn't expect that she would only see him again after more than four decades!

María del Rosario Rodríguez was thrilled when she discovered she was pregnant with her first child, a baby boy. However, she didn't expect that her child would become sick and need medical attention.

The little boy was almost a year old when he had to be taken to a health center; however, the medical system failed to do its job. Instead of Rodríguez returning home with a recovered newborn baby, she returned empty-handed.

Her son was taken from her, and the law wasn't on her side when she tried to get him back. Years later, he discovered he was adopted and set himself on a grueling path to try and find her again. This is their story.

How One Woman Lost Her Son Only to Reconnect Years Later

In November 1974, Rodríguez was blessed when she welcomed her first child at the Pereira Rossell Hospital. The new mother named her baby boy Yamandú, and when she was discharged, the two returned to Batlle y Ordóñez, the town in Lavalleja.

When her son was only ten months old, he became sick, and she had to take him for medical attention at the town's health center. Like any parent who reached out for medical help from an institution, Rodríguez expected to return home with a healthy or recovering baby.

She didn't anticipate that taking him to the center would be the last time she saw him. Speaking to the media, Yamandú's mother claimed her son was stolen at the center during the dictatorship, but in her heart, she always knew he was alive somewhere.

The boy's uncle tried assisting by filing a police report, but authorities didn't believe him. Luckily, Rodríguez's instincts were right, as her son had been adopted and registered under a new name — Mauricio Delgado.

Delgado was oblivious to his birth mother's agony, as he later revealed in an interview that he had a good childhood and never lacked anything. When his adoptive mother passed on, he was 26 and he discovered a document that revealed she had adopted him.

Despite having a good upbringing, Delgado wished to know about his roots and reached out to the Mides Adoption Department for assistance. The journey to discovering his roots was gruesome and involved twelve years of intensive searching.

Delgado had to endure people who didn't want to help him and others who closed the doors in his long search. However, on May 28, 2021, he was finally able to reunite with his biological mother after 46 years of being apart.

Recalling her againy when Delgado was first taken away from her as a child, Rodríguez expressed:

"They took him from me as if I were a dog when the puppies are taken away."

During their reunion, Rodriguez still saw Delgado as the baby she last saw when he was ten months old. She also lamented missing out on hearing her firstborn child call her "mom" for the first time.

In a similar case in Canada, a mother lost contact with her son, who was addicted to illegal substances. However, a Facebook post from a police officer altered the course of their lives.

How a Mother Reconnected with Her Long-Lost Son after a Facebook Post Went Viral

In November 2017, Constable Jason Kirkwood had just left a Toronto, Canada bank's ATM machine after withdrawing some money when he heard someone calling out to him as he walked away. It was Danny MacKillop, then 38, a homeless man he'd known for around five years.

Kirkwood, a constable assigned to Toronto Community Housing, worked with people living with addictions, as well as homeless people, and he worried when he saw Danny.

The Reserve Mines, Cape Breton man who battled illegal substance addictions asked the police officer how much he'd withdrawn. Then he asked Kirkwood to count the money, causing the constable to feel guarded because he anticipated the homeless man would ask him for some. However, the officer realized he only had $120 out of the $160 he had intended to withdraw.

To his surprise, Danny pulled out his hands revealing $20 in each. He told Kirkwood that he found the money at the machine and figured it was his. Pleased, the constable thanked Danny and gave him some money before leaving.

Mary's son had gone to many rehab centers without good results, but that time he vowed to get clean.

The officer thought it was incredible that a substance user who didn't have a way to get money had chosen to give him back his, so he wrote a Facebook post about it Danny's kind deed. Weeks later, he ran into Danny again so he told him about the feature he wrote about him on social media.

At this, Danny asked Kirkwood to tag him on the post, his reason being, "so my mom doesn't think I'm such a bad guy." The officer obliged and was surprised when his post went viral with messages from people in the homeless man's hometown.

One of the people who reached out was Danny's mother, Mary MacKillop, who hadn't seen him for eight years. She had not been in touch with him for nearly two years either. When she learned about Danny's story, she recalled:

"I was dazed. I was trying to put it all together in my mind, like, oh my God; he's there; I gotta go."

Mary traveled to Toronto with her sister, and they searched the streets, hostels, and soup kitchens, and spoke to security guards at different places.

When night came, they had decided to end their search when fate played its part. A man walked by her and upon recognizing her, stated: "'Hey, I know you — you're my mother.'"

Days later, Danny's friends and his mother helped him get admitted to a rehab facility in Vancouver. He had gone to many rehab centers in the past, without good results, but this time he vowed to get clean. Danny started calling his mother daily and sounded positive, while Kirkwood called him his hero for the money incident and wished him well.

Danny's mother planned on visiting Vancouver for some months to see her son. She lovingly revealed that since finding her son, she had no wish to lose him again.
