Last Photo of Dad and Son before They Passed Away on Sub Unveiled —They Died ‘Hand in Hand,’ Family Believes
After the Titan submersible was found in pieces in the ocean days after it began its dive towards the Titanic wreck, more stories about the five men on board were released by various media outlets.
The Titan submersible began a dive toward the Titanic wreck on Father's Day 2023. As the submersible sank deeper into the ocean on June 18, a father and son sat aboard the vessel hoping for the experience of a lifetime.
Many stories have surfaced about the Dawood men— father Shahzada Dawood and son Suleman Dawood— including the fact that they belonged to one of the wealthiest families in their home country of Pakistan and had a mother and sister waiting at home for them. The family has finally released some details about their final moments.
Along with details of the father and son's final moments, their last photo has also been released. In the image, Shahzada and his 19-year-old son Suleman stood arm in arm in preparation for the massive adventure they were about to embark on.
Shahzada's wife, Christine, also reflected on how her husband and son must have spent their last moments together. Christine said her son and husband had spent their final moments in absolute darkness to conserve energy and listened to their favorite music as they looked at bioluminescent sea creatures.
Christine and her daughter had been aboard Titan's mothership, Polar Prince, and had waved the men off. Before they boarded the Titan, Shahzada and Suleman stood side by side in their protective gear, smiling at the camera. The photo was taken moments before they began the ill-fated trip.
Shahzada and Suleman Passed Away "Hand-In-Hand"
Shahzada and Suleman's family shared their thoughts on how Shahzada and Suleman passed away, resting in the knowledge that they were together when it happened. The Dawood family shared that the father and son had an incredible bond and said:
"In this unfathomable tragedy, we try to find solace in the enduring legacy of humility and humanity that they have left behind and find comfort in the belief that they passed on to the next leg of their spiritual journey hand-in-hand, father and son."
The family continued by saying the pair were each other's biggest supporters through everything. They were also said to have a keen desire for adventure and bonded over their love for exploration and the unknown.
Suleman's aunt alleged that the young man had been nervous about going on the trip but went along to please his father, who was obsessed with the Titanic.
Tributes for the father and son, as well as the three other men aboard the sub, have been pouring in since the news broke that all five men were presumed dead after the submersible imploded.
