Dick Van Dyke, 97, Heads to the Gym with Much-Younger Wife in Rare Outing Months after Car Crash

• Hollywood icon Dick Van Dyke, 97, was recently spotted heading to the gym with his much younger wife, Arlene Silver.
• This sighting comes months after the star was involved in a car accident.

On the morning of June 15, 2023, famous Hollywood actor, show host, and entertainer Dick Van Dyke was sighted by paparazzi as he and his 51-year-old wife, Arlene Silver, headed to the gym. The 97-year-old appeared full of pep and zest as he stopped to chat about needing to get in shape.

The beaming actor dressed appropriately for the occasion, sporting Puma workout joggers, a grey long-sleeved shirt, and black shoes. Similarly, his beloved wife, Silver, adorned black leggings, a blue sweater, and a black puffer vest.

Upon exiting the car he rode in to get to the gym; an energetic and enthusiastic Van Dyke was immediately greeted by paparazzi. As he beamed directly into their cameras, the "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" star declared and sang out:

"Time to get in shape, folks! I'm almost 98! Everybody get in shape!"

He then excitedly spoke about his plans for Father's Day and joked about how there should be a day to celebrate great-grandfathers, which is what he is. This outing comes only months following Van Dyke's involvement in a car crash that left him injured.

Dick Van Dyke's Car Accident

Earlier this year, the "Mary Poppins" star was driving when he lost control of his car and crashed into a gate. In addition to a concussion, Van Dyke was left with minor injuries including a bleeding lip and nose. He also needed two stitches after his head slammed onto the steering wheel of his Lexus LS 500 when it crashed. The vehicle's airbags failed to deploy and cushion the blow in time.

As reported by news outlets, after the March 15 accident occurred, Silver decided to revoke her husband's driving access and privileges in an attempt to protect him and others on the road. According to an inside source:

"Dick's gotten to the point where he needs to be taken off the road. Arlene is terrified if she doesn't take the keys away now, it may be too late!"

Apparently, the "Night at the Museum" star is less than pleased with his wife's decision to take away his keys. The same inside source reports that though Van Dyke is aware of his age and the concerns that may come with him aging, he desires to maintain some level of independence. After the accident, Van Dyke told TMZ that though his body was in pain, he felt fine.

However, this year's car crash is not the first accident Van Dyke has experienced. In 2013, he was driving his Jaguar with his wife in the passenger seat when the vehicle caught fire. The couple was rescued by people who saw the wreck happen outside of Calabasas. Luckily, Van Dyke and Silver came away unscathed, but their car was totaled.

His fans are also happy to see him looking well and keeping healthy after the unfortunate car crash he experienced earlier this year.

Fast forward to this year's gym outing with his wife, fans were delighted to see Van Dyke looking well and keeping healthy. Many Facebook users commented on how good the beloved entertainer looks for his age:

"Incredible. [He] still looks as if he's in his early 69s."

Dick Van Dyke's Love Story with His Much Younger Wife

Silver and Van Dyke, who wed in 2012, met in 2006 at the SAG Awards. Silver was working as a make-up artist for the show while Van Dyke was appearing on it. The two lovebirds quickly found an instant connection, and Van Dyke invited Silver to work on his other projects. However, their romantic relationship only happened years after this first encounter.

The couple remains unphased by their 46-year age gap and has, in fact, maintained a good sense of humor about it, with Van Dyke jokingly referring to Silver as his child bride in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The two fell in love after Dyke experienced the tragic loss of his longtime wife, Michelle Triola, who passed away from lung cancer in 2009. Silver was incredibly supportive and would bring meals to Van Dyke daily after work.

According to Van Dyke, Silver is adored and loved by his entire family, including his grandchildren, who even refer to her as their grandmother. The married couple enjoys doing all sorts of fun activities together, but two of their favorite pastimes are singing and dancing.

The item even performs as part of Van Dyke's a capella musical group called the Vantastix. Silver then formed her own band stemming from the original band and called it Arlene & the Vantastix. She directed a music video, "Everybody Loves a Lover," which Van Dyke featured in.

The two also enjoy red-carpet moments, having made several appearances together as a couple to support Van Dyke's entertainment accolades and productions. Silver is also Van Dyke's muse, who helped out with his performance on this year's "Masked Singer." According to Van Dyke:

"They wanted me to do something current, and I know nothing from rock. So we picked out one which typifies me. She's the one that came up with it, and I liked the song, too."
