'Who Invited This Clown': Sam Smith's '16 Xl' Look At 'Barbie's European Premiere Gets Blasted
Sam Smith took their maximalist style in another direction for the premier of "Barbie: The Movie" with comically oversized Vetements fits that made a statement not everyone appreciated.
"Love Sam Smith! The outfit....well [upside-down face emoji] he is Sam Smith," a fan commented on Sam Smith's Instagram post from the European premiere of "Barbie: The Movie."
Smith captioned an Instagram post of them wearing a large sweatshirt and loose flared jeans with a light wash, "16 XL BARBIE," the slogan printed on the sweatshirt.
"Who invited this clown," a troll wrote of the singer who contributed a song from Ken's perspective to the soundtrack. "They stole Billie's wardrobe," one referenced Billie Eilish, who also went outsized for the event.
"WHY DIDN'T WEAR PINK?" a commenter demanded, while another said, "I think there are better clothes!" A third piled on with the request, "Please get a stylist." The defense of the singer was equally passionate, "NO BC, THE VETEMENTS LOOK IS PERFECT."
Earlier this week, the Brit received backlash for wearing a bejeweled G-string, corset, and fishnets during a performance. "Do you think this is appropriate for kids to see? " a social media user tweeted on Monday, while another found the singer's stage looks "ridiculous & disgusting."

Stylist Ben Reardon introduced the star to clothing that fits their body and matched how they "felt inside." Smith confided in GQ in an October 2022 profile:
"I used to be so scared of fashion."

The "I'm Not The Only One" hitmaker's stylist helped him bring a "bit of humor" to his personal wardrobe. He carried through this humor at the Brit Awards in February 2023.
Sam Smith walked the red carpet in a shiny custom inflatable latex jumpsuit by HARRI that was reminiscent of a costume worn on stage by David Bowie in 1973.
