'The Most Loving Loyal Pure-Hearted Doggie': Ree Drummond Mourns the Death of Walter

Ree Drummond recently lost her eldest fur baby, Walter, and announced his passing on Instagram. The Pioneer Woman's children were also saddened by Walter's death, leaving tributes on the post.

Losing a pet dog hurts just as much as losing a beloved family member, if not more. Sadly, Ree Drummond and her family recently felt this pain with their dog's passing.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Ree revealed the death of her adorable dog, Walter, alongside several photos that captured Walter's joy and their sweetest moments. Ree penned an emotional message.

"I'm going to bed early so I can turn off these tears and instead dream sweet memories of you, the most loving, loyal pure-hearted doggie our family has ever known," she wrote. As they commented on Drummond's post, Ree's children also mourned Walter's death. Paige said:

"The best, most loving, and loyal dog there ever was."

Her kids, Alex Drummond, and Bryce Drummond, also left short comments praising Walter for being a fantastic family member. Ree is undoubtedly a fur mom with several dogs at home. Walter was well-socialized because of his brothers and sisters and was featured in Ree's Instagram posts.

In one of her posts, Ree revealed that Walter was always the first to start the barking and howling sessions at home. Ree also posted about Walter in her blog. In 2020, she revealed that Walter was a nine-year-old Basset hound and the eldest in the pack.

Walter was also known as the most kindhearted. During tours at The Lodge, he would enjoy receiving belly rubs from everyone. Undoubtedly, Walter was a wonderful dog and an important member of the family who will be missed.

As of 2020, Ree had three more Basset Hounds at home, including one-year-old Fred and two-year-old Henry. "I've loved bassets all my life," Ree said. "Their excess skin, floppy ears, droopy eyes, and hilarious personalities keep me entertained and make my heart leap."

She also had a four-year-old German Shepherd named Presley and two Labradors, a six-year-old named Lucy and another six-year-old named Duke.

Last year, Ree's family mourned the loss of another relative, The Pioneer Woman's father-in-law, Chuck Drummond. He was the father of Ree's husband of over 25 years, Ladd Drummond, who she shares five children with.

Ree Drummond's kids sometimes appear on her Instagram posts, but they live their own lives as adults. In May 2023, Ree shared photos of all her kids, including her rarely-seen foster son. The sweet photo collage was posted on Instagram for her fans to see.
